Destination weddings

The daughter of a friend of mine is getting married in 2013 in Miami. Always been a dream of hers. Both she and her fiancé line in NY. his parents are much older and have never flown and now his brother is not going because of cost. They are still planning on having it in Miami. Her mom is worried that the future husband will resent her because none of his family will be present. I know many couples are doing the destination weddings thing, but when it becomes so costly that family members are not able to attend maybe it's time to change the venue?? Just how important is it to have the place of the wedding more important than having your family able to attend.
