Desperately need help for kitty with pooping problems.

I am in desperate need of some help. I have a male cat, 6 y/o. There are 2 other cats in the house (females 13 y/o). All are inside only cats. They are not the best of buddies but usually coexist rather peacefully. The male is a scaredy cat, loses control of bowels when upset (ie going to vet) or when something is awry in his little world. He's been known to climb on the bed, drag the pillow onto the floor, and poop on top of it.

We travel to our place up north in the summer, usually a couple times over the course of the summer. We have a great friend who takes care of the house and cats while we are gone. He doesn't stay here but comes once per day and plays with them, clean litter boxes and spends some time with them.

When I came home last week there was diarhea on the bed pillows in the spare room upstairs. While I was cleaning up and washing the pillows he climbed onto my bed and had diarhea on my pillows. More cleaning. I assumed it was a reaction to our being gone. The next day my brother-in-law died and we had to leave town again. I brought him to the vet and had them check him out. They did a culture on the poop (no parasites found). I boarded him rather than have our friend deal with it and I wanted to be sure he wasn't really sick. They medicated him and the diarhea stopped the day before I was due to pick him up.

When I brought him home the female cats were hissing at him because he smelled different from being at the vet. Every time he walked by one of them she would hiss and spit at him. Also, we had out-of-state company staying in the spare room. I had them put plastic over the pillows just in case. Sure enough he pooped (loose stools) on the plastic. The next morning he went into the back of the walk-in closet and pooped (again loose stools) in my husband's slippers! He was OK for a few days, did a poop in the litter box yesterday. This morning he had diarhea on our bed pillow again. My husband is ready to kill him!

I am assuming this is stress related since they found no parasites and he's got a history of inappropriate locations when stressed. But its never been this bad. Today I went out and bought the feliway diffusers, put one in spare room, one in our room and one near the litter box. I changed the litter, cleaned the box and added the cat attract litter. I also bought him a calming collar (looks just like a flea collar). I also bought calming treats, calming spray and an over-the-counter anti-diarhea medicine. My house is a very open floor plan, only doors are on master bedroom and bathrooms. Right now he's locked out of our room but has access to the rest of the house.

I don't know what else to do. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm so upset by this and just don't know what to do to help him. Why is he picking our pillows? And the slippers? We will be going away again in the end of September. Short of covering everything in plastic what can I do?

Please help....THANKS!
