corita, Read my post #14, The state of Alaska has been asking for the name change back to 1975, 40 years ago.

Dell -- Thanks, I did and have been hearing all about it in the news. I still think it is NOT his decisoin. A vote by the people living in Alaska would be the most equitable and honorable way to handle it. That would stilll answer the Alaskans' request and maybe, cool the Ohioans' anger.
@corita It wasn't his decision. It was by order of the Secretary of the Interior! You may have read post #14, but you didn't comprehend.
---------------------------------------
Dell - I did read and comprehend....please don't assume. But when I say his decision, I mean his administration. I still think to be fair, a vote should be taken in Alaska. If that many Alaskans want the change, then they win. I have no horse in this race....it is a beautiful area and I would love to visit sometime. And yes, maybe another hill/mountain in Ohio should be named after the man.

I think you do have a horse in this race and it's political. You've made that clear several times.

Ohio is flat, no mountains, which you would know if you had paid attention in geography class.
Denali is an unattractive name and will be mispronounced by many who live outside Alaska. The mountain belongs to all of us, not just those living in Alaska, we should all have gotten to vote on the change.

Occasional rain is always against everything but she has outdone herself here. Call a national election to name a mountain? And she's worried about the cost of changing maps? How much do you suppose an election would cost?
Denali is a familiar name to most people with any education as it's the name of one our premier national parks and well-known as a wildlife refuge. I'd say it's a pretty easy name to pronounce.
Surely somebody in Ohio has a pimple we could call Mt. McKinley.

Alaskans, through their elected officials, have asked for the change years ago.
The state of Alaska has had a standing request to change the name to "Denali" — a native Athabascan word meaning "the high one" — dating back to 1975, when the legislature passed a resolution and then-Gov. Jay Hammond appealed to the federal government.

You insult someone on their geography skills when you have trouble pronouncing a common name? Pot meet Kettle.
