I guess I don't understand the layout and where they were walking/facing.  

If the two girls were walking ahead of him, he was behind them.  Couldn't they run forward and away, and how could he grab both girls at the same time?  Only asking.  I, too, have been upset thinking about this terrible situation.

When he said 'down the hill', could one girl have run down the hill, and maybe the other girl go down a hill on the other side of the bridge, both running in different directions, just to get away.

Unfortunately, I guess both of the girls followed his directions and they both went down the hill together.  

DH and I have always had a 'deal' that each of us run in different directions.

There are the three 'D's'.  'Deflect, 'Divert, and 'Distract'.  It's on a post-it on my bulletin board.  

Three words to remember.

p.s.  If they were walking toward him, could they have turned around and run away in different directions?

I guess I just cannot visualize the setting and their positions on their walk. 

Maybe there wasn't anywhere behind them to run away?

Is it a 'not a through street'/trail/bridge? 

My intuition is that there were two aggressors. The man in the photo looks too 'large' to capture one girl while carrying her and running after the other one. 

It is very puzzling to me.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps they were killed in an "unusual"  way that only the killer(s) would know.  Or in a way the authorities could tell that it took more than one person and it would jeopardize the investigation if it was made public.

So glad they have a suspect in custody.

Again, just thinking..........Maybe the girls were planning to meet the younger man (sketch) via some sort of social media.  The sketch younger man looks quite a few years younger than the man in the video.

Then, the older man appeared, walking on the bridge and the two of them captured these girls.........

Well, it's just a thought.  Right or wrong.
