Delphi murder case in court over whether documents should be unsealed

A judge presiding over the case will hear arguments Tuesday on whether the probable cause affidavit and other documents related to the suspect's arrest should be unsealed.

Richard Allen of Delphi was arrested last month for the 2017 murders of best friends Abby Williams, 13, and Libby German, 14. The eighth graders were on a hiking trail in rural Delphi when they were

At an Oct. 31 news conference announcing the arrest, Carroll County prosecutor Nicholas McLeland would not say when Allen, 50, became a suspect or if he knew Abby or Libby.

"Per the court order, we cannot talk about the evidence that's in the probable cause [affidavit]," McLeland said.

Police also have not released how Abby and Libby were killed.

Allen, who was taken into custody on Oct. 26 and charged with two counts of murder, has entered a not guilty plea, according to prosecutors.

Police still ask anyone with information about the case to submit a tip at abbyandlibbytip@cacoshrf.com or 765-822-3535.

@SeaMaiden I have never understood why they haven't  released the cause of death for these two young girls. I don't live very far from where this happened.

When I first saw this case on Dateline, I could not quit thinking about it.  I even went on Google maps to see the bridge and get a "layout" of the town and surrounding area.  It has been a case that has haunted my thinking for years.  And, of course, now...I am following it with great interest.

@jubilant  I think they are just  very careful to do this case right....to make sure the suspect does not get off  because info gets out prematurely.

@SeaMaiden  I think you're probably right on that. Maybe because it's so close to home or that these girls were so young that I find it to be so upsetting. I hope, after all this time.... there can be closure to this case.

The prosecutor has said that the defendant may not have been acting alone. No other details were given.

The case has been secret; they haven't provided much information to the public.

'All of this time', I've been thinking and wondering how one single person could capture two young girls.

Seems to me that one of the girls could have run away, run home and call for help.

Unless the perpetrator had a gun and threatened them.

The video of the man doesn't show a gun, but who knows.

When he said' go down the hill' (or whatever he said), at that point, they didn't have to.

I have a feeling that there were two men.  Mainly because why didn't those precious girls run away from the one man in the video ?

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
