A friend. long-time church and community member who was, and whose family still is, in our social group, died during recent days an expected death due to long-term dementia.
As this happened during a pandemic, the church which would have normally been packed with standing room only was different. The wife chose no wake and no guests at the funeral. His reality was gone for 2 years, their lives together had been erased from his mind and all who had known the situation had been attentive to assist them in their daily needs. She elected to have no guests attend a funeral where they might contract a virus that could wipe out a small community. So she asked for the youngest pastor to attend the service for her, their only son, his wife and children. Such a thoughtful thing for this lady to do for a community who loved them and who she loved too and paid respect.
@Nonametoday A coworker passed away (non covid) suddenly in July. Her family planned a zoom memorial at her church- so the only people at the church were immediate family, people performing the numerous eulogies or singing. 15 people max? The photos were set up as a digital slideshow before the memorial began. And probably 100+ people attended virtually. It was a beautful event, it celebrated her life.

Many people who attended that party became ill. Most aren't getting tested because they have been very vocal about thinking this is all overhyped and a bunch of BS. They also don't want the owners of the hall to get in trouble because in Ohio you are supposed to limit gatherings to 10.
@Lipstickdiva ..... and these 'non-actions' will result in further spread unfortunately. Ohio has it really bad right now, too.

@Ibby114 Unfortunately that's the newest thing we are hearing about in my area.People carrying on knowingly with covid.
One guy even announced it in barber shop & got thrown out.Mostly loud mouths. The ones that never did believe,
no masks, etc.& now they walk around proclaiming it.Go figure.

@red&curly Yep, that attitude is going on all over.
I'm hoping a national mask mandate can be instituted, I'm not sure of the legalities though.

My son was supposed to marry in September and paid for more than half for the reception but still cared enough about his guests to cancel everything and he lost his deposit. I guess you could say, I am proud of his decision to put others before himself....
@happycat, you are doing the right thing.
Your son is a smart and caring young man @Trinity11 .

@Trinity11 wrote:I am in New York and every night on the news there is another story about fining and shutting down a business. Great but what about there being some compensation for the owners of these businesses? They are unable to pay the rent and feed their families...
Are you suggesting that the city that is fining the business should then also help the business pay their penalty? That wouldn't make any sense as a deterrent to irresponsible business decisions.
What I am saying @Porcelain is that this is not as simple as closing the business. These business owners are closing one after another many never to return. Why there is no federal help bewilders me. The incentive for them to remain open is to feed their families and pay their rent. They are fighting for their lives in a sense.
It would be so easy for me to condemn them sitting here retired and comfortable. I can see their point of view, that's all....
There is a train of thought by some officials that forcing businesses to close without some sort of compensation amounts to confiscation.

These decisions are just something everyone has to make for themselves.
I missed a wedding, even though this was outdoors and in September.
I missed my first grandchild's baby shower this summer as well.
We did nothing for Thanksgiving, and will gather with no one for Christmas most likely as well.
I hate it. But it is what I feel we need to do to protect my elderly mom.

@Ibby114 , it has been determined that it cannot be done.

@Ibby114 , it's my understanding that this is also one of the reasons some hospitals will not allow anyone to visit any patients, even if they are end of life. How can they trust that the person/people they allow in will quarantine like they promise? Many of them won't.
There are people now who are supposed to be in quarantine because they were exposed to someone who tested positive and they are running around and carrying on with life like nothing, possibly spreading this. And they are the ones sick and tired of the shutdowns and closures. I guess they don't realize they are also the ones involved in causing what they are complaining about.
