There are stipulations in place with the Death with Dignity law. Simply because one does not choose this for oneself does not mean others shouldn't be allowed to choose for themselves. One stipulation is that the person has been diagnosed with a terminal illness that will lead to death within 6 months. An elderly person who just doesn't feel useful doesn't fit the criteria necessary.

In my opinion, it wouldn't be long before that elderly person fit the criteria. One thing would lead to another.

This law has been on the books in Oregon for twenty years. If anything sinister were going to happen, it would have by now.

My godfathers son had this type of cancer. He was 15 yrs old when he was diagnosed with this and he was in terrible pain.

I can't imagine why ANYONE would begrudge a person to choose to end their life because of a situation like this.

Seriously, we let our animals die a more peaceful, more pain free and more dignified death. I can't imagine why anyone would begrudge a human being what we allow our animals to have.

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

JobGirl, in re-reading the above exchange between us I realize that my comments were hasty and unnecessarily curt. I apologize for that. My feeling, that some of the unkindness heaped on the young woman who ended her life, overwhelmed me. Still does. That is no excuse for me to be rude.

I understand -I do it often myself -no problem! it is a very emotional topic for many regardless of which side they fall on....
