OY.... they just did an investigative report on TODAY show about getting ripped off at the car dealer for repairs. Apparently the service managers are sales people who work on commission. They took a Jeep in that needed a relay switch replaced that should've cost about $100. Out of 5 dealers they took it to for service, only ONE diagnosed it correctly. The estimates from the others ranged from about $270 all the way up to $1,990!!
I generally take my Toyota Highlander to the dealer for service and now it's making me rethink. Although I've never had a surprise big bill for work done. My DH generally knows what needs to be done. We also own a small pickup and he takes that into Sears for specific service like tires and oil change.
Do any of you have dealer service/repair horror stories? Either happened to you or family/friend who was ripped off?
