Both NYT and Washington Post are both running deals on digital subscriptions: dollar a week for one year. I just change both of my subscriptions in order to take advantage of this.

@patbz I might do so too. I'm a subscriber and I think they are both running out soon.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I used to be a voracious reader. But stopped getting the newspaper because my mailbox is a way off from my house and I got tired of the stories they ran.
At that price it's hard to not take advantage of it.
I keep thinking it would make my Dad and step-father happy. They both worked for the Washington Post from the time they were 10 years old (yep...10 years old) until they retired.
If I get it, I feel like my Dad would be looking down with a smile that I'm not letting that old brain of mine fizzle into something unrecognizable.
It was sweet of you to let us know.@Patzb

I've been trying over and over to sign up and well...nothing so far.
I finally asked my daughter (who's more computer savvy than I) am to try.

@Annabellethecat66 : You can phone (number is in subscription info) and get signed up that way. During a pandemic as well as an election year, these two are my go-to news source.

@patbz Thanks to you I just added the Wapo to my regular reading. Thank you.
I think of the Wapo as the juicy younger sister of my regular NYT. What a treat during election year.

@patbz I always prefer talking on the phone rather than the computer.
I was ready to call the NY Times when .....ping...went my brain and I called my youngest daughter.
She's a wiz on the computer (every family has one, I have several) but her...I can make her feel guilty (come on Mom's you know what I'm talking about) so first I told her I'd sent her those Filet Mignon things and her Dr Denese stuff then the next post went something like. So...I was wondering if you could sign me up for $1 per week digital papers for the Post and NY Times.
Ding! My phone rang and she said, "It's done mom! Happy Mother's Day. I never know what to get you...that was it". Ha!
Ahhhhh!! I clicked on the paper and see where all of these people are marching about being on lockdown.
But you know what?! Nothing has really changed.
It's not like we have a cure for the virus. Nothing has changed.
Our Drs and Nurses have only cared for the sickest of the sick. We can still all get sick.
I see both sides of the argument. I'm not smart enough to have the answers. I understand what each side is going through.
I do know people will do anything so they can feed their children. If they aren't working they're not getting paid and that's not good.
I honestly think it doesn't have anything to do with going back to our old way of life. I think people want to be able to make enough money so they can buy groceries and the only way to do that is to go to work. They feel like if they get the virus...so be it at this point.
There will be people who will get sick and some will die but we can't lock down forever or there'll be no country to go back to.
I guess we'll just have to use common sense and stay away from the vulnerable. Try to anyway.

Went on Amazon to see if Washington Post was on sale there ( since it is owned by Jeff Bezos ), and found a free download app, but only for Android or Amazon devices. I will see if I can get it on my Kindle.
Will check out NYTimes next.

@Elri I : If you have a fire you can get the free version for a little while (I use an 8" fire) but eventually you will need to subscribe.
