I had to go out yesterday and while I was wearing gloves my hands still hurt from the cold.  All I did was pump gas and run in and out of a few stores.  My heart goes out to people who have to be out in this.  It's -4 in KC today.  I love the Chiefs, but I wouldn't go to the game if I got free tickets. Not today.  BUURRR.  Stay safe, if you must be outside and live in cold weather.

I think I got frostbite on my hands and feet a couple years ago, now my hands and feet are so sensitive, I can't be out in it like I used to.  Got some hand and feet warmers for this year - they seem to help.  Stay warm!

Is that -4 the chill factor?????  We got down to 5 here in the St. Louis area.....and it is still there.  They were saying on the weather report last night that the chill factors would really be low.  They said the chill here would be about -14.  We had freezing rain, then snow.....the snow was not deep, but it sure caused a lot of accidents on the roads and highways in and out of the St. Louis area.  It is supposed to warm up in the middle of the week, and Christmas is supposed to be 40.  Can live with that temp.....     I know I would be wearing my down coat if I had to go out.....but I won't be going any place for now.

The Chiefs game will be interesting, with temperatures hovering near zero.  Wonder what the wind chill will be.  No idea how they can play in such cold weather.  I've read before they have giant heaters at field level so it's a little more bearable for players.

Firefighters too...they often end up covered in icicles in upstate NY!

We just had a 2-day taste of cold where I live. Today it is dreary with rain, so you know the temps have moderated a bit.

You mentioned cold hands. My hands are always freezing until I walk briskly for 1 mile. I never use gloves when I'm walking...just tuck my hands under my sweater sleeves for warmth. After the mile, I am able to expose them. But when I'm driving to work, my hands wrapped in gloves, are still cold for a long time!

The real point of my reply is this...my DH just told me about 35 degrees below - socks and gloves. He asked me to order the socks for our SIL, who works in his cold garage. Then I spotted the gloves, and decided to order for my DD and me.

Has anyone ever tried the 35 degrees below things?

It has warmed up over the last few hours (Minnesota).  It's currently -18 with a wind chill of -35.  Given this is the last weekend before Christmas, folks will still be out in full force.  And since we just had a bunch of snow, folks will out be snowmobiling and skiing.  I'm not planning on going out today.

Yesterday it varied between 25 and 30 degrees in KC.  Today actual temp  is -4, so windchill is much lower than that even.  News is even saying school could be cancelled.  No precip today, but we had ice followed by snow yesterday.  One firetruck overturned. Luckily no one was hurt.

I live in central Iowa and our actual temperature this morning was -17.  It's not going to get above zero today.  A little improvement tomorrow and the next couple of days! Needless to say, I'm not going out at all today.
