Very sad news. QVC is making big mistakes. He will be missed.

@North Carolina   Didn't Dan just recover from a major heart attack?

The entire decision background is posted on the Q Talk thread, beginning with Qurate's announcement yesterday that as of March 1 400 were let go on HSN and QVC.

Dan Huighes and Carolyn both posted today on their private Facebook pages. The senior stylist posted and was let go Angelo I think. Shannon on HSN was let go.

Hosts are on contracts, so it may have been a decision not to renew some contracts, although it has also been posted by corporate that significant severnace packages and health care were given to all 400.

Qurate Investor Relations Press Release:

After careful consideration, we have made the very difficult decision to eliminate a number of roles within our Qurate Retail Group team, impacting our QVC US and HSN teams, and our corporate shared services teams in the U.S. Today will be the last day worked for most of these team members, although a small number will transition over time. Today’s impacts affect approximately 400 of our team members across these groups. These decisions are not easy but are necessary in realigning how we manage the business and heighten focus on critical priorities.

Thank you, Much'ly!

@JoyFilled Warrior   Imagine how hard this is RIGHT NOW for their closest co-workers (Dan & Pat!), going on air as if everything is fine?

@1Professor I was thinking the same. Pat and Dan appear to be very close. I for one, believe they do have a very close friendship. They have a show together that is promoted using very old videos of the two of them together. This must affect Pat as well.

I accept change pretty well but why couldn't they get rid of the hosts that have so many complaints against them. In the scheme of things, Carolyn and Dan had very few complaints. I guess they just weren't pulling in the "young" and "new" viewers they are trying to attract these days.

We don't know whether  Dan or Carolyn decided to move on or whether they were forced out. I would not assume anything, but wish both of them well. I do think since they are both two who have been there for many years and are older, they will be missing two hosts who relate very well to the customer base....so they will be missed and some will just stop watching. Many of the newer, younger hosts are just able to sell the things Q sells with much credibility. It's like they are selling things they would never wear, buy, or use.

This substantiated my theory that a retirement incentive was offered.  They wouldn't just lay off older.hosts as that would violate civil right law and leave them open to lawsuits.  The undoubtedly asked for volunteers.  Both Carolyn and Dan have plenty going on that they probably enjoy more than QVC.  This may be a relief to them.

Go QVC. Sales are down and you alienate your customer base. How much are your executives pulling in again?

QVC as a company appears to have absolutely no loyalty towards their tenured loyal employees.  IMO as a longtime, over 30 years customer, bringing in all these unproven into-themselves newer show hosts (and I don't necessarily mean this very newest crop, but previous to that as well) who don't seem to be able to present and sell products as well as they can promote their cutesy selves, is a big mistake for QVC. There are several hosts who quite simply are unwatchable, and thus I go to my catalogs and other websites for my purchasing dollar.

I understand the almighty dollar and am sure the salaries of the hosts and others laid off are greater than the newbies and relatively newbies, but my dollar is important too QVC and you are no longer presenting me with pleasurable viewing and a reason to spend my money with your company.
