Dan is a little older. Do you think he opted for a retirement package. He's been there a long time. I haven't watched QVC. Since 2001 or about the time Kathy left. The new Qcv on television is not good I buy, but prefer to go online and shop. I get more details on product, like measurement, sizing Tex and read reviews. QVC shows seem like they are mainly social chat, incorporating their lives with the product. Lesser details on the product than the host. I do know it is a comfort and enjoyment for many. For me, I only know the older hosts if they were hired after 2001, I am clueless. But I do enjoy online

Don't give a hoot about Dan. Have never cared for him.

@BLH You have posted this in two different threads--and you couldn't be more wrong! Carolyn is 64--not eligible for full Social Security for several more years, and not eligible for Medicare until she's 65.
Dan is 66 I think, so still not eligible for full Social Security.
I'm 68, and had to wait til I was 66 and two months, before collecting full Social Security (and not losing any benefits by continuing to work).

I took Social Security at 62 and have been happily collecting it for almost 5 years now. Medicare starts at 65.

Maybe they can both "get by" on the reduced social security along with the 401k, pension and personal savings.
I know many who have.

Someone in another post says that Dan was born in October 1961, making him 61. I am almost 64 and knew that he was younger than me.

Am not surprised at all--seems getting rid of people is the soup dejour lately. Am wondering if these people chose to go anyway and this was the opportunity to do so-- maybe due to health concerns for themselves or family memebers--I know Dan has heart issues and doesn't Carolyns husband has some serious health things too--or maybe her folks need help--who knows. but it all has to do with the bottom line---money is way more important than people----personally, I would hate to go thru a farewell in public. Just let me go ASAP!! I'm sure this wasn't a big surprise---and at the age they are, was maybe an ok decision. but we will prob never know the nuts and bolts of all this unless someone spills the beans on social media--I hope they were treated with respect, at least!!

Another layoff that surprised me. There are very few men on qvc as it is.
Personally, I think they chose the wrong folks to give a pink slip to.

The entire decision background is posted on the Q Talk thread, beginning with Qurate's announcement yesterday that as of March 1 400 were let go on HSN and QVC.
Dan Huighes and Carolyn both posted today on their private Facebook pages. The senior stylist posted and was let go Angelo I think. Shannon on HSN was let go.
Hosts are on contracts, so it may have been a decision not to renew some contracts, although it has also been posted by corporate that significant severnace packages and health care were given to all 400.
Qurate Investor Relations Press Release:
After careful consideration, we have made the very difficult decision to eliminate a number of roles within our Qurate Retail Group team, impacting our QVC US and HSN teams, and our corporate shared services teams in the U.S. Today will be the last day worked for most of these team members, although a small number will transition over time. Today’s impacts affect approximately 400 of our team members across these groups. These decisions are not easy but are necessary in realigning how we manage the business and heighten focus on critical priorities.
Thank you, Much'ly!
@JoyFilled Warrior Imagine how hard this is RIGHT NOW for their closest co-workers (Dan & Pat!), going on air as if everything is fine?
@1Professor , I agree! For Dan, the first person I thought about was Pat. For Caroline, it was Gary.
Pat & Dan have worked together forever! I always liked their morning show. They played off each other well. Dan would crack jokes in his "stand-up" way and Pat would laugh quietly and politely and get on with the business at hand. They struck a good balance.

Plus the horrific reality that neither Dan nor Carolyn is old enough for Medicare. Health care is critical.
Dan recently had a major heart attack and need ongoing cardiology care, and Carolyn was a cancer survivor a few years back.
Yes there is COBRA that will give the same health care you had (and YOU pay the full price that employer was giving) but only for 18 months.
Sigh.
