Daily Positive Thread for Tuesday

Much time is spent fearing that which isn't really there in the first place.
Lord, help me conquer my fears and overcome my difficulties as they
happen rather than giving up and letting my difficulties overcome me.
Scripture for the day:

"Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes
refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, until the
destroying storms pass by." ~Psalm 57:1

Meditation for the day:

"My soul is restless until it finds its rest in Thee." A river flows
on, until it loses itself in the sea. Our spirits long for rest in
the Spirit of God. We can yearn to realize a peace, a rest, a
satisfaction that we have never found in the world or its pursuits.
Some of us are not conscious of our need, and can shut the doors
of our spirits against the Spirit of God. That makes it difficult for
us to find true peace.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that I may feel the divine unrest. I pray that my soul may
find its rest in God.

Hello to my wonderful friends here! Hope your day went well for a Monday - hope you had some blessings to share with us. Today Linus had off, and we sure got busy cleaning out closets and finding new places for things to store, and some to throw out, of course, too! Our Church has a new library and we are donating some books there, all spiritual books that we've accumulated thru the years. Pictures - that took me a long time to sort and get them in order - but now they are and I'm so glad - as I found two photo albums not touched so I called Lori and asked her if she wants them to put pictures in, I bought them when the girls were still home, it was to be a project with them, but it never happened for some reason.
The things we've found as we were going thru papers etc etc. His mom's death certificate - and her checkbook, among other papers of hers, medicals, he was the power of attorney. Found Lori's Baptismal certificate. Real nice notes they wrote us when they lived at home, who can throw that away? No way! They are so precious! We got a lot done today and I feel it! Good that Lori's having a garage sale in a couple weeks and we have a lot to go there. Called off the realtor for this morning, just aren't ready, so he's coming Thursday morning instead, no problem he said.

Homily of the day - would you like me to continue this one or not? I'd like some feedback on it, ok?

Are You Working Only for Perishable Food?
by Monsignor Dennis Clark, Ph.D.

Acts 6:8-15 / Jn 6:22-29

One of the nastiest mistakes we can make is to forget about some especially tasty leftovers in a dark corner of our refrigerator. Eventually they reappear, and it’s not a pretty sight! What warmed our heart and delighted our palate only days before has been transformed into a ghastly mess which threatens to walk out of the refrigerator on its own power. The costly ingredients and the hours of preparation are a total loss.

One wonders how much of our labor and striving falls into that same category — huge efforts leading to nothing. Jesus warns us about that in today’s gospel, “You should not be working for perishable food, but for food that remains unto life eternal.” Indeed so.

The problem is that we forget to ask that simplest of all questions: Is what I’m doing taking me where I really want to go? Will it last, or will all my hard work turn to dust in my hands? Even when we remember to ask the question, we sometimes get the wrong answer, because we answer too fast.

So take some time every day to look at what you’re doing and where you’re going. Remember the big vision that Jesus gave you. Being faithful to that vision and to Him and He will keep you on track and keep you moving forward. And when your days are done, there will be more in your hands and in your heart than dry dust and spoiled leftovers. Much, much more, indeed!

My Mother, too

Then to the disciple he said, "This is your mother." John 19:27

O Jesus, my God, I have loved the earthly mother You have given me,
loved her in all her goodness, loved her because of all her love for me.
And now I shall love my other Mother too, love her will all my heart,
with a child's own simple love. She is Yours, but she is mine, too.
Like John of old, I shall take her to my own and hold her for my Mother.
Thanks, dear Lord Jesus, thanks for Mother Mary. Thanks for all her
love these years that are no more. Oh, make me know and love my Mother.

Recipe For Happiness
By: Joseph J. Mazzella

My Dad has sent over some of his delicious homemade
spaghetti sauce for our dinner tonight. It is such a joy to
the taste buds. He lets it slow cook for hours and always
adds the perfect amount of garlic to heighten the flavor.
You feel better just for eating it. It is for me the best
tasting sauce in the whole world. It is the same sauce
that my Grandma and Mom made every Sunday when
I was growing up. It will always be for me a recipe of pure
delight.

We all have recipes in our lives. We have recipes for great
food. We have recipes for loving relationships. We even
have recipes for success. The one recipe I think that we
are all searching for, however, is the recipe for happiness.
We all want to be happy and we all want some secret
recipe that will bring that happiness into our lives.

The recipe for happiness, though, isn't the same for everyone.
Each one of us is a unique individual. Things that would add
to the happiness of one of us would only add to the misery
of another. The truth is that each of us has to create our
own recipe for happiness. Each one of us has to make our
own dinner of joy and love.

Just remember that although each person has a different
recipe for happiness the ingredients always remain the
same. You have to take a cup of what you think, stir in
a few ounces of what you feel, and sprinkle generously
with what you do. If what you think is positive, what you
feel is joyous, and what you do shows love then you will
always create a glorious dinner of delight and happiness
for yourself and others. God has given each of us the
ability to be the great chefs of our own lives. It is up
to us, however, to create the recipes, do the cooking,
and share the meal.

Make Your Day Bright
By Thinking Right

Don't start your day by supposing
that trouble is just ahead,
It's better to stop supposing
and start with a prayer instead,
And make it a prayer of thanksgiving
for the wonderful things God has wrought,
Like the beautiful sunrise and sunset--
God's gifts that are free and not bought...
For supposing the worst things will happen
only helps to make them come true
And you darken the bright, happy moments
that the dear Lord has given to you...
So if you desire to be happy
and get rid of the misery of dread,
Just give up supposing the worst things
and look for the best things instead.
--Helen Steiner Rice

Hope this isn't too long - and for the closing prayer I'll use this:

Daily Prayer of the Church

Visit our dwelling we beseech Thee, O Lord, and drive far from it all snares of the enemy; let Thy holy angels abide therein to preserve us in p eace, and may Thy blessing remain with us always, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Good night everyone - sweet dreams to all and may you all find your blessings for Tuesday!! God has many in store for us, in our every day ordinary lives. God bless you all!
