Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

If a person or a situation causes you to feel insecure, you have
forgotten who you really are. Lord, You are my Father. I am Your
child. How can I ever feel like less.

Scripture for the day:

"No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one
and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and wealth." ~Luke 16:13

Meditation for the day:

Sometimes we'd like the full and complete satisfaction that we can
find in serving God and all the satisfactions of the world as well.
It is not easy to serve both God and the world. It is difficult to
claim the rewards of both. If we work for God, we can still have
great rewards in the world. We can also be prepared to sometimes
stand apart from the world. If we turn to the world for all the
rewards which life has to offer we can be disappointed. If we try
sincerely to serve God, we can have other and greater rewards than the
world has to offer.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that I may not expect too much from the world. I pray that I
may be content with the rewards that come from serving God.

Hello my friends! Hope your day went well. Exhausting day for me - it still was fun being with my girls looking at Wedding Gowns, and bridesmaids. Lori got hers picked out, it's a blue over the knee one, not long. Darla has one kind of picked out, but she's going looking some more yet. We also looked at reception halls, pricing them etc. Rainy day here today again. Well, friends, thanks for your prayers for Linus' feet. He worked 3 days in a row now and he didn't take meds for pain. Maybe that Epsom Salt soaks are working? He had a soak before going to work today. Next two weeks there will be a transition at work and he has more hours and longer and is concerned if he can do it. At least he talked to his manager about it, and he said if it's a slow day he can go home early, so we'll see. I think two days next week will be 8 hours! Anyway any prayer is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for all your prayers for us!! Know that you are all in my prayers daily also.

If Wishes Were Horses, Beggars Would Ride!
by Monsignor Dennis Clark, Ph.D.

Gn 15:1-12,17-18 / Mt 7:15-20

Once in a while in very pensive moments, most of us get to wondering what God really thinks of us as individuals. What does he think of the way we’ve managed our lives and handled our challenges so far? If we died tomorrow, would God be delighted to welcome us home, or would he be saddened to have us up so close? Are we good persons or not so good at all? We can wind ourselves into some fairly tangled knots with such questions and get no closer to the truth than we were when we began.

It’s for that reason that today’s gospel is a welcome source of clarity. Jesus tells us we can know for sure whether a tree is good or bad by checking its fruit. In the same way we can get a clear and reliable reading on who we are at our center by checking the patterns of our deeds. We all do things that are out of character at least once in awhile. But whether beautiful or ugly, such things are aberrations that don’t define the essence of who we are. It’s the big, consistent patterns of our deeds that tell the tale and infallibly speaks about who we are.

Note, it’s not what we’d like to do that tells us who we are, but what we actually do. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. So check your deeds, not your wishes, check the big patterns, not the aberrations, and let what you see be your guide as you set the course for the next leg of your journey toward God.

Mother Teresa Said...

"To join the congregation we need few things.
We need health of mind and body.
We need the ability to learn.
We need plenty of common sense
and a cheerful disposition.
I think common sense and cheerfulness
are very necessary for a work like this."

YOUR CROSS
Author Unknown

The young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he
dropped to his knees in prayer. "Lord, I can't go on," he said. "I
have too heavy a cross to bear."

The Lord replied, "My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place
your cross inside this room. Then, open that other door and pick out
any cross you wish."

The man was filled with relief. "Thank you, Lord," he sighed, and he
did as he was told.

Upon entering the other door, he saw many crosses, some so large the
tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a
far wall. "I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered

And the Lord replied, "My son, that is the cross you just brought in."

When life's problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and
see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far
more fortunate than you imagined. YOUR CROSS Whatever your cross,
whatever your pain. There will always be sunshine after the rain.
Perhaps you may stumble, perhaps even fall, But God's always there.

Stop trying to please others - it doesn't work.
Start pleasing yourself.

Make sure your shoe souls are clean when you're walking through someone else's life.

Upon awakening each day, use the following quotation.. " Thank You God, for this day...
let's get out there and see what wonderful stuff we can accomplish "TOGETHER".

Always praise a person for a job well done.

Praise your children often.

Words we should say more often: "LOVE YOU".

Never say good-bye or good night to your husband, child, mother, father, dear friends, without making sure they've heard or felt your "LOVE YOU" message.

Remember that the world does not expect you to be more than you are capable of being, but it does expect you to try to live up to all that you were created for.

You can't turn back the clock, but you can wind it up again.

A LORD'S PRAYER FOR JUSTICE

In our scheme of things, survival of the fittest is the rule. In God's scheme, survival of the weakest is the rule. God always stands on the side of the weak, and it is there - among the weak - that we find God!

Our Father…

Who always stands with the weak, the powerless, the poor, the abandoned. This is the insight of the saints.

Who art in heaven…

Where everything will be reversed, upside down, where the first will be last, and the last will be first.

Hallowed be Thy Name…

May we acknowledge your holiness; your ways are not our ways.

Your Kingdom come…

Help us to create a world where we will walk justly, speak tenderly, and walk humbly with you and with each other.

Your will be done…

Open our freedom to let you in, so that the complete mutuality that characterizes your life may flow through our veins.

On earth as in heaven…

May the work of our hands reflect the justice of heaven.

Give…

Life and love to us, and help us always to see everything as a gift. Help us to know that nothing comes to us by rights, and that we must give because we have been given to.

Us…

The truly plural 'us'. Give, not just to our own, but to everyone including those who are very different from the narrow 'us'.

This day…

Not tomorrow. Do not let us put things off into some indefinite future, so that we can continue to live justified lives in the face of injustice.

Our daily bread…

So that each person in the world may have clean air, pure water, enough food, health care, access to education, and so have the basis of a healthy life.

And forgive us our trespasses…

Forgive us our blindness towards our neighbour, our obsessive pre-occupation, our racism. Forgive us our capacity to watch the evening news and do nothing about it.

As we forgive those who trespass…

Help us to forgive those who victimize us. Help us to mellow our spirit, to not grow bitter with age, to forgive the imperfect parents, the family or the community that wounded us.

And do not put us to the test…

Do not judge only by whether we have fed the hungry, given clothes to the naked, visited the sick, or tried to mend the systems that victimized the poor. Spare us this test, for none of us can stand before this gospel scrutiny. Give us instead more days to mend our ways, our selfishness and our systems.

But deliver us from evil…

Deliver us from the blindness that lets us continue to participate in anonymous systems within which we need not see who gets less as we get more.

Amen.

Good night all - sweet dreams and God bless you!! Enjoy the Gift of God's day tomorrow!
