Daily Positive Thread for Thursday

Enthusiasm will be yours if you love God, love people, and love life.
Lord, the nearer I follow Your way, the happier I become.

Scripture for the day:

"I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the
world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the
world!" ~John 16:33

Meditation for the day:

"I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the
world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the
world!" We can keep an undaunted spirit. We can keep our spirit free
and unconquered. We can be undefeated and untouched by failure and
all its power, by letting our spirit overcome the world. We can rise
above the earth's turmoil into the secret place of perfect peace and
confidence. When a challenge comes to us, we can remember that we have
God's help and nothing can wholly defeat us.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that I may have confidence and be of good cheer. I pray that I
may not fear the power of failure.

Hello my friends! I started this thread out over 5 years ago with us
stating at least 3 positive or blessings that came our way that day.
Today's blessings was a dryer getting fixed at no cost - ins. pays it
through X-Cell Energy. That was No. 1. No. 2 - since my husband bought
some new shoes for work - with orthodontics in - He's been able to have more
comfort - praise the Lord! and 3) enjoyed taking Sammy out for a little
walk and enjoying the weather plus enjoying the patio - this is the fourth
year now that we have our patio - closed in deck - and what a blessing that
is!! Another blessing was that Lori's lawn mower wasn't working at all -
Linus thought it was the compressor - took it home, gave it to our neighbor
who likes fixing things, and all it needed was a spark plug and it works
like a charm now. So many blessings to mention and so many more too
numerous to mention. I encourage you all to post your blessings, if not on
this thread, then on a paper at home, and it helps, as Sunny Side Up
mentions on her new thread. It was nice to see Only Happy on the other
thread - do come again - you are always welcomed here - and I'm so glad
Carolina had a good trip and got relaxed and is back to work and back with
us again. Thanks so much for praying for Linus for his long hours next two
weeks. I praise God for people who are willing to pray for others.
Juanita - Yes, I believe you are right that it is the hardest for people to
forgive each other, but oh, so very necessary for all to do. We all have
our share, don't we? It even says in the Bible that if we don't forgive
others, God won't forgive us.

Power of the Holy Name of Jesus

The name of Jesus is the shortest, the easiest, and the most powerful of
prayers. Everyone can say it, even in the midst of daily work. Our Lord
Himself has solemnly promised that whatever we ask the Father in His Name we
shall receive (provided, of course, that it be for His Glory and the good of
our soul).

Each time we pronounce the holy Name of Jesus with reverence and love,
and with proper intention, we give great glory to God and obtain for
ourselves priceless graces.

Each time we say JESUS, we may, in desire:

Make an act of perfect love, offering to God all the infinite love of
His Divine Son as if it were our own.

Offer the Passion and Death of Our Lord to the Eternal Father for His
greater glory and our own intentions.

Offer to God all the infinite merits and perfections of Jesus.

Offer all the Holy Masses said each day throughout the world, for the
glory of God and the good of our own and others' souls.

Each time we say JESUS, we increase in our souls the virtues of faith,
hope and charity. Our faith becomes more lively, our confidence in God
greater, and our love more intense.

The Holy Name of JESUS saves us from innumerable evils and dangers,
helps us to overcome temptations, and delivers us from the power of the
devil, who is constantly seeking to do us harm.

The Holy Name of JESUS fills our souls with peace and joy, and gives us
strength to bear our trials and sufferings with patience and resignation.

Each time we say JESUS, we can gain a partial indulgence which we may
apply to the souls in purgatory, thus relieving and liberating many of them
from their awful pains, and gaining for ourselves friends who will pray for
us with incredible fervor.

We ought, therefore, to try to acquire the habit of saying JESUS, JESUS,
JESUS, very often every day, with fervent love and devotion -
when dressing, when working - no matter what we are doing, in moments of
sadness and in moments of joy, at home, in company, on the street, when
walking, riding or waiting. We can say it countless times every day, and
thus gain untold graces and blessings for ourselves and for the whole world.
Nothing is easier, if only we do it with all our heart.

INVOCATION

O admirable Name of Jesus! Name most holy! to men most amiable! Name
above every name. No other name is given under heaven in which we can be
saved.

Jesus, honey in our mouth, melody to our ears, sweet jubilee to our
hearts! O Jesus! You are our life, You are our salvation, You are our
glory, to You be praise forever and ever. Amen

This is a good habit to get into - say the Powerful Name of Jesus often
during the day. Make it a habit.

Your Cross - St Francis de Sales
+ + +

The everlasting God has

in His wisdom foreseen

from eternity the cross

that He now presents to you

as a gift from His inmost heart.

This cross He now sends you

He has considered with His all-knowing eyes,

understood with His divine mind,

tested with His wise justice,

warmed with loving arms

and weighed with His own hands

to see that it be not one inch too large

and not one ounce too heavy for you.

He has blessed it with His holy Name,

anointed it with His consolation,

taken one last glance at you

and your courage,

and then sent it to you from heaven,

a special greeting from God to you,

an alms of the all-merciful love of God.

PRAYER FOR PEACE . . .
OF MIND AND HEART

Eternal, Holy God, I come to you burdened
with worries, fears, doubts, and troubles.
Calm and quiet me with peace of mind.
Empty me of the anxiety that disturbs me,
of the concerns that weary my spirit,
and weigh heavy on my heart.

Loosen my grip on the disappointments
and grievances I hold on to so tightly.
Release me from the pain of past hurts,
of present anger and tension, of future fears.

Sometimes it's too much for me Lord -
too many demands and problems -
too much sadness, suffering, and stress.
Renew me spiritually and emotionally.
Give me new strength, hope, and confidence.
Prepare me to meet the constant struggles of
daily life with a deeper faith and trust in You.

Let your love set me free . . . . for peace,
for joy, for grace, for life, for others . . . .
forever. Amen.

When I said

When I said to the Lord "I am so short of where you want me to be."
He gently answered "That's okay. That's all the farther you and I can
walk together."

When I said to the Lord "I don't know who I am."
He gently answered "That's okay. I know who you are."

When I said to the Lord "I am so tired of fighting."
He gently answered "That's okay. Satan is down for the count."

When I said to the Lord "My actions aren't reflecting my heart."
He gently answered "That's okay. Mine did."

When I said to the Lord "My mind is corrupted."
He gently answered "That's okay. Use mine for awhile."

When I said to the Lord "I don't know how to love."
He gently answered "That's okay. I will give you free lessons"

HOMECOMING

An old missionary couple had been working in Africa for years and were
returning to New York to retire. They had no pension; their health was
broken; they were defeated, discouraged, and afraid. They discovered they
were booked on the same ship as President Teddy Roosevelt, who was returning
from one of his big-game hunting expeditions. No one paid any attention to
them. They watched the fanfare that accompanied the President's entourage,
with passengers trying to catch a glimpse of the great man.

As the ship moved across the ocean, the old missionary said to his
wife, "Something is wrong."

"Why should we have given our lives in faithful service for God in
Africa all these many years and have no one care a thing about us? Here this
man comes back from a hunting trip and everybody makes much over him, but
nobody gives two hoots about us."

"Dear, you shouldn't feel that way", his wife said.

He replied "I can't help it; it doesn't seem right."

When the ship docked in New York, a band was waiting to greet the
President. The mayor and other dignitaries were there. The papers were full
of the President's arrival. No one noticed this missionary couple. They
slipped off the ship and found a cheap flat on the East Side, hoping the
next day to see what they could do to make a living in the city.

That night the man's spirit broke.

He said to his wife, "I can't take this; God is not treating us
fairly".

His wife replied, "Why don't you go in the bedroom and tell that to the
Lord?"

A short time later he came out from the bedroom, but now his face was
completely different. His wife asked, "Dear, what happened?"

"The Lord settled it with me", he said.

"I told him how bitter I was that the President should receive this
tremendous home-coming, when no one met us as we returned home. And when I
finished, it seemed as though the Lord put his hand on my shoulder and
simply said, 'But you're not home yet'!

And finishing this off with words by Mother Teresa:

Christian Wisdom

Smile at each other,
smile at your wife,
smile at your husband,
smile at your children,
smile at each other --
it doesn't matter who it is --
and that will help you to grow up in greater love for each other.
