Greetings my friends! Tomorrow, Sunday, is the first Sunday of Advent already! Wow! It'll be a nice Sunday Mass tomorrow - with the blessing and lighting of the Advent Wreath. Looking forward to it. Last night I had a wonderful visit over the phone with my best friend in High School - she married a man quite a bit older than she is, and they have a daughter who has MS and wheelchair bound, which they both take care of her now. Mary Claire was married but he divorced her when she got sick. Their son has a disease that he cannot have any salt at all or he gets sick. He's not married. So if you would, please pray for this family, Arlie and her family. She needs a lot of help! The only way out of her house is to go to the grocery store and she would love to go visit her sister in our hometown, who's husband has pancreatic cancer. Our friend, Angie, is calling her parish for some help, and for someone to come and give them Communion. It was so nice to talk to her, and she'll call again when she has time. Today I had a nice visit with Angie on the phone, and my sister, Deil! Phone calls are blessings and so are emails. Bought some Christmas cards today and so plan to do cards tomorrow afternoon. Got the tree up - it's really big!!! Not decorated yet though. I'm going to thank you all in advance for your prayers for Arlie and her family.
Avoid using the words 'If only...' and 'I should have...'. These can
destroy
your peace of mind and even your health. Lord, help me to stop punishing
myself for past mistakes and live in the peace of the present.
Scripture for the day:
"So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will
find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who
asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who
knocks, the door will be opened." ~Luke 11:9-10
Meditation for the day:
"Behold, I shall stand at the door and knock. If any person hear my
voice and open the door, I will come in and remain with that person
and that person with me." The knocking of God's spirit, asking God to
come into our lives, is due to no merit of ours, though it is in
response to the longing of our hearts. We can keep a listening ear,
an ear bent to catch the sound of the gentle knocking at the door of
our heart by the spirit of God. Then we can open the door of our
hearts and let God's spirit come in.
Prayer for the day:
I pray that I may let God's spirit come into my heart. I pray that it
may fill me with an abiding peace.
Prayer For The Future
Lord, open our heart to receive Your Holy Spirit.
Teach us to await His coming, just as You did for Mary on the day of the
Annunciation, and again on Pentecost - the birthday of the Church - when she
was transformed into our Mother.
Show the new generation that Your Son Jesus Christ remains always and
forever the one and only Savior of the world.
Help us proclaim in a loud and bold voice that He is "the way, the truth and
the life."
The way that leads us to our final destiny.
The truth that illuminates our passage through the darkness of life and the
world.
The life that enriches us with profound peace.
Allow Your disciples, at the dawn of the third millennium, to speed up their
steps towards obeying Your command to be "one" in unity with the Father, the
Son and the Holy Spirit. May we approach the Lord, united, radiant with His
light, without somber faces, so that the whole world may know and recognize
Jesus Christ living in His disciples.

IT'S ONLY A QUARTER!
Author Unknown
Several years ago a preacher moved to Houston, Texas. Some weeks after
he arrived, he had occasion to ride the bus from his home to the
downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had
accidentally given him a quarter too much change.
As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, you better give
the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it. Then he thought, "Oh,
forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little
amount? Anyway the bus company already gets too much fare; they will
never miss it. Accept it as a gift from God and keep quiet."
When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, then he handed
the quarter to the driver and said, "Here, you gave me too much
change."
The driver with a smile, replied, "Aren't you the new preacher in
town? I have been thinking lately about going to worship somewhere. I
just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change."
When my friend stepped off the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest
light pole, and held on, and said, "O God, I almost sold your Son for
a quarter."
Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read.
