Love people so much that you will do all that you can to lessen their
human sorrows. Lord, You have shown Your love for me. May I
now radiate Your presence to others.
Scripture for the day:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." ~Psalm
119:105
Meditation for the day:
In all of us there is an inner consciousness that tells of God, an
inner voice that speaks to our hearts. It is a voice that speaks to us
intimately, personally, in a time of quiet mediation. It is like a
lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We can reach out into the
darkness and figuratively touch the hand of God. Deep down inside
each of us is the fundamental idea of God. We can find this great reality
deep down within us. And as we find it, it can change our whole
attitude toward life.
Prayer for the day:
I pray that I may follow the leading of the inner voice. I pray that
I may not turn a deaf ear to the urging of my conscience.
Hello my friends! Nice, beautiful day here again today! How was your day?
We went to the noon Mass at the Cathedral and here it was a healing Mass -
there were people there in wheelchairs, and music and full Church! Very nice
being there - and after the Mass was the annointing of the sick. It's
always a blessing to be there at their noon Mass, can't get there too often
though because of his work. Then we went to the Olive Garden - haven't been
there in ages! Had my Marsala chicken - with a box for another meal, of
course. I asked what they had in the salad dressing besides olive oil, and
she said you can buy it - so I did, I bought their salad dressing for $5.00,
just for a change. Bet you didn't know they sell it - right? I know that
Applebee's sells theirs too. It was such a pleasure today picking
raspberries right in the sun! I know soon that will be over with, so I
enjoy it while I can. Linus got a lot of the yard work done today and we
both found time for a nap - I was so tired this afternoon, maybe going out
to eat had something to do with that. At our Good Earth Food Co-op they
sell those Debbie Meyer green bags too, so that's a blessing I don't have to
order them and pay shipping! I like them, and they last so long.

Beware -You Aren´t Seeing Everything
by Monsignor Dennis Clark, Ph.D.
Bar 1:15-22 / Mt 18:1-5, 10
Amidst their elaborate array of rituals for every season and purpose, the
Israelites regularly offered a sacrifice that is particularly intriguing. It
was called “the sacrifice for our unknown sins.” How very realistic they
were about the human condition!
Which one among us has not awakened at some point or other to the ugly fact
of a deed or an habitual pattern of living that is very simply wrong? Which
one among us has not averted our eyes or covered our ears when the voice of
conscience began to whisper its protests? And when at last there was no
avoiding it, and we saw the truth and saw the hurts, then, as Baruch says in
the reading, “…our faces flushed with shame” and our hearts groaned for
forgiveness.
Not just once has this happened to us, but many times across the years —
unless we are truly brain-dead. And it gives us pause as we contemplate the
present. What are we not seeing and not hearing now? For even the best of
us, the answer is almost certainly: Much too much.
So where does that leave us? It should leave us in a posture of profound
humility and circumspection: “Take it for granted we’re not seeing
everything in ourselves that our neighbor sees and has to endure in us.” If
we accept that as truth, the next step is self-evident and not optional. We
have to extend to our neighbors the understanding heart that we absolutely
need from them.
They need it, we owe it, and it’s the only sacrifice for our unknown faults
that really works in the end.
What a friend we have in Jesus
What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer.
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.
(Joseph Scriven 1819-1886)
CAN YOU SLEEP WHEN THE WIND BLOWS
Author Unknown
Years ago a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He
constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to
work on farms along the Atlantic. They dreaded the awful storms that
raged across the Atlantic, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops.
As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady
stream of refusals. Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age,
approached the farmer. "Are you a good farmhand?" the farmer asked
him. "Well, I can sleep when the wind blows," answered the little man.
Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired him.
The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk,
and the farmer felt satisfied with the man's work. Then one night the
wind howled loudly in from offshore. Jumping out of bed, the farmer
grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hand's sleeping
quarters. He shook the little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is
coming! Tie things down before they blow away!" The little man rolled
over in bed and said firmly, "No sir. I told you, I can sleep when the
wind blows."
Enraged by the response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on the
spot. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm. To his
amazement, he discovered that all of the haystacks had been covered
with tarpaulins. The cows were in the barn, the chickens were in the
coops, and the doors were barred. The shutters were tightly secured.
Everything was tied down. Nothing could blow away. The farmer then
understood what his hired hand meant, so he returned to his bed to
also sleep while the wind blew.
MORAL: When you're prepared, spiritually, mentally, and physically,
you have nothing to fear. Can you sleep when the wind blows through
your life? The hired hand in the story was able to sleep because he
had secured the farm against the storm. We, as believers in Christ,
secure ourselves against the storms of life by grounding ourselves in
the Word of God. We don't need to understand, we just need to hold His
hand to have peace in the midst of the storms. I hope you sleep well!
Enjoy the day! May God Bless You and Yours
My Creed
This is my creed: To do some good,
To bear my ills without complaining,
To press on as a brave man should
For honors that are worth the gaining;
To seek no profits where I may,
By winning them, bring grief to others;
To do some service day by day
In helping on my toiling brothers.
This is my creed: To close my eyes
To little faults of those around me;
To strive to be when each day dies
Some better than the morning found me;
To ask for no unearned applause,
To cross no river until I reach it;
To see the merit of the cause
Before I follow those who preach it.
To keep my standards always high,
To find my task and always do it:
This is my creed - I wish that I
Could learn to shape my action to it.

Renewal
By Helen Steiner Rice
When life has lost its luster and it's filled with dull routine, when you
long to run away from it,
seeking pastures new and green, remember no one runs away from life without
finding when they do,
that life's problems go there with you no matter what you do.
So when your heart is heavy and your day is dull with care, instead of
trying to escape, why not withdraw to God in prayer?
For in prayer there is renewal of the spirit, mind, and heart, for
everything is lifted up in which God has a part........
For when we go to God in prayer, our thoughts are
rearranged, so even though our problems have not been solved or changed,
somehow the good Lord gives us the power to understand, that He who holds
tomorrow is also the one who holds our hands.
Prayer for Christ's Mercy
O Lord, show your mercy to me and gladden my heart. I am like the man on the
way to Jericho who was overtaken by robbers, wounded and left for dead. O
Good Samaritan, come to my aid, I am like the sheep that went astray. O Good
Shepherd, seek me out and bring me home in accord with your will. Let me
dwell in your house all the days of my life and praise you for ever and ever
with those who are there.
Saint Jerome, Priest, Writer, Doctor of the Church (Today is his Feast Day)
