In everything imitate God and you will come to know him better and better.
Lord, I ask your help to come close to you in my thoughts and bring love to
this earth.
Scripture for the day:
"And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God,
and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." ~John 17:3
Meditation for the day:
"And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God,
and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." Learning to know God as best we
can helps us experience eternal life. Freed from some of the
limitations of humanity, we can grow in things that are eternal. We
can strive for what is real and of eternal value. The more we try to
live in the consciousness of the unseen world, the gentler will be our
passing into it when the time comes for us to go. This life on earth
can be largely a preparation for the eternal life to come.
Prayer for the day:
I pray that I may live each day as though it were my last. I pray that
I may live my life as though it were everlasting.
Hello my friends! How was your day? Cold here, but as the day went it get a
bit warmer, no winter coat today, and the sun was out warming the earth.
Just a bit chilly yet in the porch - in the 60's. Feels strange not having
to pick raspberries anymore, and I never got tired of it! I only got a few
frozen. Okay - I just got a call from Sister LaDonna - she will have
surgery tomorrow - it's not a real surgery, but it's a vertebra plasty which
is where they will insert cement into the vertebra thru a needle. It's a 20
minute procedure. I had that done 9 years ago when I had fallen out of the
bathroom into the hallway wall and made a big hole in the wall with my head!
This was just minutes before leaving to go on a cruise to the Panama Canal
with Linus' Insurance Co. He thought I just need an adjustment and I'd be
good to go, not! X-Rays showed I had a compression fracture in my upper back
and was told I needed treatment instead of the trip! 10 days later, I had
the vertebra plasty done - as an outpatient, so Sister LaDonna wanted to
know how long it was, and when I was ready to go home etc. so I told her.
She sounded much better tonight, and that always makes me feel good and I'm
so glad I got to talk to her and have a nice conversation. She thought she
would have a Sister there at the Motherhouse let Deil know how everything
went with the procedure and then Deil call us. So friends, let's pray extra
hard for her for her procedure - hey - it's going to done on her tailbone -
ouch! Lots of healing prayers are in order here!! I hope this is not a
mistake for her. May God's will be done!! For me the procedure was to
prevent me from being humped back and from chronic pain. It did that. That,
my friends, was my biggest blessing today was having her call me. Another
one was, Linus took me out to eat for supper, had chicken.
I made a real good chicken vegetable soup for lunch today, and I told him he
could make the supper. Sorry this is getting so long!

This Is Not a Dress Rehearsal
by Monsignor Dennis Clark, Ph.D.
Romans 6:19-23 / Lk 12:49-53
Taking life for granted is one of the worst mistakes any of us can ever
make. We can end up sleeping through most of life, as if we thought it would
somehow just go on forever. For many of us, life has a certain air of
unreality and sometimes it seems that someone had better issue the warning:
This is not a dress rehearsal. This is the real thing.
Jesus is issuing that very warning to us in today’s gospel. “I’ve come to
light a fire on earth,” he says, “and how I wish the blaze were ignited!”
What exactly does he want to set afire? Us! All of us! He wants to fire us
up with enthusiasm for the marvelous possibilities that life holds out to
us — both here and in the hereafter. Specifically, he wants to see us commit
everything we’ve got to making God’s kingdom of love and peace come here and
now. A task of that magnitude requires total commitment and admits of no
ambivalence.
So what does the Lord see when he looks at us? A heart ablaze? Smoldering
embers and a little smoke? A pile of dead ashes? Jesus had some hard words
about folks who tried to get away with minimal commitments. “Be either hot
or cold,” he said. “If you are lukewarm, I’ll vomit you out of my mouth.”
That’s what he said. It would probably be smart to take him at his word!
God Brought to a Destitute
I never forget what happened to our sisters in Rome, where we work with the
shut-ins.
They go to the poor people's houses. (We clean the house and give them a
bath, wash their clothes in the house and so on.)
The sisters found someone left in a terrible condition. They cleaned his
room and washed is clothes and gave him a good bath, but he never spoke.
After two days he told the sisters, "You have brought God into my life,
bring father also."
They went to the parish priest and brought the priest. That man who never
spoke, only that sentence he said, made his confession (he was Catholic).
He made his confession after sixty years, and next morning he died.
He had a beautiful death!

Where is God?
On April 12th 1961, Russia's Yuri Gagarin, became the first person to travel
in space. His spacecraft, Vostok 1, journeyed a single orbit of earth.
There were speculations in the media, that from orbit, Gagarin made the
comment, "I don't see any God up here," implying that there is no God in
heaven. However, there is no confirmation that such words were ever spoken,
but it prompted the question as to whether or not God exists. Of course, a
good response is "If you haven't seen God on earth, you will never see him
in heaven."
O Lord,
Your greatness is seen in all the world!
Your praise reaches up to the heavens;
When I look at the sky, which you have made,
at the moon and the stars, which you set in their places -
what is man ... that you care for him?
Yet you made him inferior only to yourself ...
You appointed him ruler over everything you made;
You place him over all creation;
O Lord,
Your greatness is seen in all the world!
(Psalms 8:1,3-6,9)

Heart Line To Heaven
Bible reading: Psalms 116:1-5
I love the Lord, because He hath heard my voice and my supplications (Psalm
116:1).
Can God hear one little cry in the midst of the myriad prayers that rise
from all over
the world at the same time?
This question has troubled many a believer. Many years ago a dramatic object
lesson
settled this enigma for one Christian. The scene was one of New York's
crowded beaches.
An estimated million persons dotted the expanse of sand. Transistor radios
blared ball
games and jazz all over the beach. Ice-cream vendors screamed out,
advertising their
wares. Mothers yelled at their to venturesome offspring.
Suddenly, in the midst of all this confusion and din, a lifeguard sprang
from his tower,
his toes barely touching the sand as he darted toward his light skiff. In
seconds he had
rowed unerringly to where a life was in danger. While curious persons mobbed
the
waterfront, he brought to shore the the near-victim of a drowning accident.
In all the indescribable hubbub, the lifeguard's attuned ear had discerned
the cry, "Help!"
Will the omnipotent Good do less?
No! Says the Psalmist. God will hear even the faintest cry. His ear is bent
in your direction.
He will listen. To the trusting Christian in need of any kind of help, there
is a direct line.
A "heart line to Heaven."
Let us all offer a prayer for Sister LaDonna now - and all of those loved
ones who are suffering!
God bless you all! Good Night - Sweet Dreams! Enjoy Friday and the
weekend - enjoy all of God's blessings!
