Unhappiness within comes out in an emotional reaction, unlike the happy person
who is slow to anger. Lord, help me to glow in Your presence so that the heat of
the moment doesn't get to me.
Scripture for the day:
"Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set
all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is
revealed. Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires
that you formerly had in ignorance. Instead, as he who called you is
holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, 'You
shall be holy, for I am holy.'" ~1 Peter 1:13-16
Meditation for the day:
No work is of much value without preparation. Every spiritual work is
best if it has behind it much spiritual preparation. If we cut short
times of prayer and times of spiritual preparation, many hours of work
may be profitless. One poor tool working all the time, but doing bad
work because of lack of preparation, is of small value compared with
the sharp, keen, perfect instrument working for only a short time, but
which turns out perfect work because of long hours of spiritual
preparation.
Prayer for the day:
I pray that I may spend more time alone with God. I pray that I may
get more strength and joy from such times, so that they will add much
to my work.
Hello my friends! How was your day? Today my DH and his brothers had a great time together making that kritsworst again. This time they used oatmeal. They were three of them, and used a turkey cooker outside, big enough batch to divide a bunch among them! It's something they grew up with on the farm that they love having again. If you'd want the recipe, I'll give it to you. Linus is enjoying his couple days off, doing what he likes to do. I am so blessed to have him for a husband, and my daughters, too. Blessed for their love for me! Blessed for God's Love for me, too!! His unconditional LOVE!!
On the Road
Where are you in the spiritual journey?
Wherever you may be, keep pressing on.
God is bringing you closer to himself.
Remember, we do not travel alone.
Humility
"We must never glance at what is good in ourselves, much less ponder over it, but we should search out what is wrong and what is lacking. This is an excellent way of remaining humble."
St. Vincent de Paul
For Reflection:
How does pondering the good in ourselves jeopardize the virtue of humility? How can discovering the wrong in ourselves or that which is lacking be a jumpstart for growing in virtue? Where do you need to begin?
I Know Who Holds Tomorrow
I don't know about tomorrow,
I just live from day to day.
And I don't borrow from the sunshine
'Cause the skies might turn to gray.
And I don't worry about the future,
'Cause I know what Jesus said,
And today I'm gonna walk right beside him
'Cause he's the one who knows what is ahead.
There are things about tomorrow
That I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.
And each step is getting brighter
As the golden stairs I climb.
And every burden is getting lighter
And all the clouds, their silver line.
And, I'll bet the sun it's always shining
And no tears will ever dim the eye
And the ending of the rainbow
Where the mountains, they touch the sky.
There are many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.
Yes I know who holds my hand.
KNOWING MY WORTH
Author Unknown
"Each one of you is a Son of God because of your faith in Christ
Jesus" - Galatians 3:26
Even as a child, this counselee of mine did not receive enough praises
or encouragement from her parents and siblings. Only criticisms when
she erred. Naturally, her self-esteem was damaged. And it took its
toll in her married life.
Now, her husband gone to another woman, she lives as a single mother
to two kids and she is struggling to find a way to support them - both
materially and emotionally. In our sessions, I focused on her self-
esteem because I knew it was her low self-worth that made her repeat
harmful behavior patterns, which is her real problem. She has to
realize that she was a child of God. And this means she is loved.
The root of all codependency is a love hunger, which can be filled by
the Lord mainly.
That is why there is hope for those of us with a broken past. A good
grounding in the Lord will see us through.
God's Minute
I've only just a minute,
Only sixty seconds in it.
Forced upon me, can't refuse it,
Didn't seek it, didn't choose it,
But it's up to me to use it.
I must suffer if I lose it,
Give an account if I abuse it,
Just a tiny little minute,
But eternity is in it.
By Dr. Benjamin E. Mays
ATTITUDE
The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully
dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably
coifed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind,
moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed
away, making the move necessary.
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing
home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready.
As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual
description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had
been hung on her window. "I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm
of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.
"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room .... just wait." "That doesn't
have anything to do with it," she replied. "Happiness is something you
decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend
on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how I arrange my mind.
I already decided to love it ... "It's a decision I make every morning
when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting
the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work,
or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do. Each day is a
gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all
the happy memories I've stored away ... just for this time in my
life.
Old age is like a bank account ... you withdraw from what you've put
in .. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in
the bank account of memories
Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank. I am still
depositing.
PRAYER WHEN YOU NEED TO FEEL SPECIAL
Eternal God, you have made me special. Help me to work
and develop my unique personality. You intended for me to be an
original, not a carbon copy of someone else. Thank you for making me
different. Grant that I will always put my individuality to its best use
for Your work. Amen.
Prayer for Myself
O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore You, I love You, and with a lively sorrow for my sins, I offer You this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to Your will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in You and for You. Protect me in the midst of danger, comfort me in all my afflictions, give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, Your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.
