The ultimate ridiculous purchase. Wonder if she'll have them for play?
HONG KONG - A Hong Kong billionaire tycoon paid a total of $77 million at auctions in Geneva for two large and rare colored diamonds for his 7-year-old daughter Josephine - and renamed them after her, his office said Thursday.
Joseph Lau was the top bidder for the 12.03-carat "Blue Moon" diamond that sold Wednesday night for a record-setting 48.6 million Swiss francs ($48.5 million), said a spokeswoman for Lau, who declined to give her name. Sotheby's said the buyer promptly renamed the pricier gem "The Blue Moon of Josephine,"
Lau was also the buyer of a 16.08-carat vivid pink diamond that sold for 28.7 million Swiss francs ($28.5 million) auctioned by Christie's the night before, she said. The buyer renamed that diamond "Sweet Josephine," Christie's said.

They are investment gems and not for play. They probably will never set into a jewelry setting, but locked away for safekeeping.

Sad. All the poverty in that country. People living hand to mouth in close quarters resorting to Lord knows what to scratch by and this kid wouldn't know the difference if she was given a ring from the dollar general store.
Way it is all around the world. Rich get richer poor get poorer. I would think what all good I could do with that money.

If daddy loves her, takes good care of her and spends time with her, THEN she is a lucky girl.
The diamonds are investments. If people didn't pay $ for them they would just be pretty stones. (Ok, maybe they are just pretty stones in any event, lol).

I thought the blue was kind of washed out but the pink was a wowzer.

He actually was convicted of bribery and money laundering, but hasn't spent a day in jail...Yet....
