Re: DUTCH NATIONAL TULIP DAY IN AMSTERDAM

Imagine what great photos you can get in the tulip garden with those colors.  Beautiful.

Re: DUTCH NATIONAL TULIP DAY IN AMSTERDAM

@Oznell, Nice post. I always think spring with tulips and daffodils. My favourite bulb though is hyacinth.

@Carmie Your memories brought back memories of my grandmother's garden (she died when I was 7, so, I am fortunate to have some very nice rememberances.
She let me and my two older sisters select a carnation to put in our hair. I was about 4 and chose a pale pink; one sister a darker pink and my oldest sister a red one.
Like your grandmother, mine had Lilacs, Bachelor Buttons and Sweet Peas; I also remember the carnations, roses, iris, pansies

(I used to make up stories about the pansies with their faces!) and the tall Delphiniums.
An older neighbour of ours also had a beautiful garden with similar flowers; mostly I remember her roses (especially the pink one) and the tall hollyhocks.

Re: DUTCH NATIONAL TULIP DAY IN AMSTERDAM

Do any of you remember the readers when we were children that had stories about people and places around the US and the world? My favorite story was about a family in Holland who grew a blue tulip. Ever since then, 40+ years, tulips have been my favorite flower and Keukenhoff Garden is one of my dream tours. I buy them in the store and they are fleeting in their beauty but worth it to me. We have moles in our yard this winter and I'm afraid my tulips won't make it this year but I will plant more!

Re: DUTCH NATIONAL TULIP DAY IN AMSTERDAM

I love flowers of all kinds—another one of God’s amazing gifts.

My family often brings flowers to me. They tend to get many in the closed stage—that way we can enjoy them as they begin opening before us. My daughter loves to tend to them and take out the ones after they start getting a little old looking. Then she rearranges them and puts them in a smaller vase so we can enjoy them longer.

I can imagine visiting places such as these. We are experiencing -22 so that would be a welcome sight!

@Tennesseegal,  the idea of a blue tulip truly captures the imagination, especially the fanciful imagination of a child, as you were!  It's like a fairly tale...

I love the almost-not-there delicate scent of a tulip.

Re: DUTCH NATIONAL TULIP DAY IN AMSTERDAM

@Oznell  I love the simplicity of tulips, daisies, and the cheerful daffodil. Tulips are my favorite. I love and miss the fragrance of lilacs, and when I retire I'll move to where they grow. I love lily of the valley because they're simple and unique and because my mother carried them in her wedding. I adore the stunning fucsia plant because each year my child gave me one to hang above the porch for Mother's Day. Nice thread.
