@Tupe wrote:@Tinkrbl44 before retiring, I was in the banking industry for 30 years. We always charged for stop payments on checks and ACH payments. Depending on the year and the bank, the charge would range anywhere from $25 to $35. It's nothing new. It was there when I started in 1984.
Hope this helps.
@Tupe you are right, I forgot that they did that back in the day. Thinking back now it might have been 6 dollars in 1990's. I do remember teller telling me at time they charge because some people make a habit of it. They write checks, turn around and cancel them. Who'd a thunk it?

Yep, $30 and it is non reversible.

Mine charges $33.00. Yeah one dummy lost mine and my husband called them and asked them to waive it since we ask nothing of them. They did. They said only one time though. It's usually entities that you usually don't send payments to that get wonky.
Not for nothing but paper money, coins, checks, ATMs will all be gone soon and everything will be electronic. I will only do this when they mandate it. I told my husband who works in IT that I want THEE best security hard and software when this happens. Changing passwords is crucial and I mean every week.
Now, if I had just been born a bit earlier.....LOL!!!

We had a check that was lost in the mail. They (Chase) waived the fee. Cost us nothing,

Chase treats people pretty nicely. For anonymity's sake, I won't be too descriptive but yes, they're very obliging.
Our landscaper lost a check. I pay him and what does he do? He shoves the check in his pocket like a little kid. Yep, he lost it. I told him.....uh....I'll give you another one minus the stopper fee. He said...forget it. You owe me nothing.
Anyway, like I said before it's usually entities you don't usually have to send payments to that lose them. Why? Who knows. I DO know that billing departments are the worst to deal with. I don't get it. I ran a whole office and no one ever had to call me for any issue. I did payroll accts. payable, accts rec. all the office communication with other companies. Tons of filing. This one place sent me a bill, it was the wrong amount I did not know that but I paid it and yep it got lost. Got a stopper on it, husband asked bank to waive fee, they did then I called them back and said I'm putting their payment and I need the right amount on the credit card. What a nightmare....LOL....

Mine charges $26

I've had bank accounts since the 1960s. Every bank has had a fee to stop payment on a check.
