I know QVC grants us the great courtesy of letting us keep stuff in our cart for an hour, which I love. But today I was in the process of buying something on HSN and was on the last page for checkout. I hit the purchase button and all of a sudden the message came up "this item is sold out". So am I to believe that HSN does NOT hold your stuff in your cart AT ALL? Thanks.

Don't know about HSN, but I had this happen a couple of times on QVC; however, I heard that doesn't happen, but I wasn't dreaming.  Of course, the items sold out, so it looked like they were plucked out of my cart.

Shawn mentioned one time to be sure to purchase your items because "They could be snatched out of your cart."  Well, that's what happened to me.

They do not hold your item for an hours like QVC does. Nor do they have a check hold payment option, either.

Re: DOES HSN HOLD CART?

[ Edited ]

I believe somewhere there's a notice that you don't get the item until after you hit "submit" and get a confirmation, which is a pain, if you're trying to order more than one thing.  I've had that happen to me more times than I like.

And last night I had another annoying experience with HSN.  I decided shortly before midnight that I wanted to order some of their collapsible, fabric storage boxes and put them in my cart.  I knew that the free S&H expired at 11:59, so I hit submit at 11:55 (according to my computer).

Then I watched the little "processing wheel" go round and round and round!  I figured they were being slammed because it was so close to midnight, but wasn't worried as I'd submitted my order in time.

Think again!  It finally went through and at 12:01 I saw my order confirmation, having charged me an additional $7.50 (plus tax) for S&H!  I immediately cancelled the order and went onto live chat to explain it and ask if they could do anything.

I got the standard "Oh, so sorry that happened.  Our free S&H ends at midnight."  I told the woman that I knew that and I'd already said I submitted my order BEFORE midnight.  Been there before with HSN customer service and I wasn't in the mood to mess around so I told her to forget it and they'd lost a sale.

I'm not a fan of HSN.  They are so rigid in their rules and their CS reps don't seem to be able to do anything to fix things for their customers.  A waste of time even bothering to try to talk to them.

don't wait till last minute and try to beat the clock.

my husband always waits to get in the lane he wants to turn in at the last minute thinking the world will graciously let him cut them off.  Lots of times he's found it's best to think ahead.

@SharkE - I'm sure that's true and most times I don't, but sometimes we are all busy and trying to get things done.  Often, late night is when I have the quiet time to do things.

And if I submitted it in time, it's not my fault, if their system can't handle it.

Their loss, not mine.  The customer shouldn't be blamed or penalized.

(And I'm not one of those who waits till the last minute to change lanes either!  I do think ahead, especially in traffic.)

No! I learned that lesson the hard way years ago! But also beware, the Q does that with One Time Only's as well!

HSN will keep something in your cart as long as it is AVAILABLE. Does that mean it's saved for you? No and it shouldn't be. Why would any business allow something that MIGHT sell just sit there when another person who has the funds to buy it now wants to buy it now? I get it.

I have stuff in my cart that I've gone back months later and it's still there. Even showing a marked down price as well. Convenient if you're price shopping or get interrupted and then come back to continue shopping. QVC doesn't do that; you have an hour and they remove it. You just move it back into your cart from where they've saved it for you (underneath your cart in a "holding" section on the page). In the end, it works out to be the same.

QVC does NOT guarantee a hold on the inventory of the item in your cart for an hour.

That is an incorrect statement.

The item SHOWS in your cart for one hour, then moves below to Saved Items.

If the items sells out while you are letting it sit there, the order will not be complete and the same thing will happen.

I have put an item in my cart and gone back to read reviews and watch the video.

During that absence, my size/color sold out and I was NOT able to order.

It has happened many times over the years.  Oh well, I figure if I dawdled, I didn't really need it anyways.
