DIY repurposed gumball machine

i had been looking for one of these for a couple of years after seeing some on the DIY blogs i follow that the girls had changed the look of. i found one yesterday at one of my favorite "junk shops" as my DH calls them as i searched for my next project. it is brand new still in the box/packaging/wrapping for only $20. of course i threw the bag of gumballs away - from what i can tell by the model after researching it was made in '85!

i know i will paint it either antique white or ORB to add to my kitchen. one lady bought one for her daughter and spray painted it "tiffany blue" and then added acrylic diamonds to it just for display. it was so cute and girly and i loved that it was not the same old pink! another one painted hers gold and added gumballs that looked like large pearls with gold glitter for her home office.

i am leaning more toward using it for another purpose other than real gumballs because with my guys i am afraid they would end up damaging it and wearing the knob completely off the machine!{#emotions_dlg.unsure}
