I, too, enjoy the behavior of birds.

One time I even took a falconry class!

I live in a big city, but in the past few decades I have seen an increase in the number of hawks entering my neighborhood.

One unusual thing is that multiple crows will come together and start yelling at the hawk and try to chase it away. I looked this up, and the behavior name is mobbing.

It seems like the crows are trying to warn other birds, and make the hawk leave so it does not start using certain areas as hunting grounds.

Very fascinating behavior!

P.S.  I have pet parakeets, and a few times when they were outside a hawk circled closely, but their cage is pretty indestructible.

Ravens are Big.  We have crows.  They are clever birds.

I watched a group of crows one afternoon as they sat in a tree top.

They would launch off and land back on the same branch a few moments later. Odd, I thought.  Then I realized they launched themselves  when the Wind Kicked up, gave a few flaps into the wind then settled back to wait for the next breeze. They were Playing!

I hate crows! They're nest raiders, eating the eggs and even chicks.

I'd shoot every one I could, if it was legal, which it should be IMO.

I live on an island and the whole island is a wildlife refuge.

I also read that crows are very susceptible to West Nile Virus and since 1999, their population has diminished by 45%.

I’ve watched crows take a walnut from the tree, fly and drop it in the middle of the road and wait for a car to drive over it and crack it open.

Fly off with it then come back and repeat again.

Doesnt the Raven keep quoting:

   "Nevermore"    "Never more"

Re: Crow vs Raven

[ Edited ]

A flock of crows is call a Murder of Crows.  Still called that in the U.K.  Crows/Ravens/magpies etc are extremely smart.  Probably the smartest of birds.  But then most birds are quite intelligent. They are aggressive birds too.  Neither of these types of birds show fear of humans.
