I agree it is not the same doing the online....the paper and pen is much better: doing online is just cumbersome.

Another vote here for NY Times Crossword Omnibus books.  But my true passion is acrostics, specifically Eclectic Acrostics books purchased at Amazon.

My mother had a subscription to the Dell variety puzzles book so I've been doing crosswords and different word and number puzzles since a very young age.  My addiction right now is Kakuro.

I'm glad you brought this up, @QVCkitty1.

Many years ago, both my mom and I were addicted to the Boston Globe's Sunday crossword puzzle. They were the best!

One time when the entire family was spending time at our folk's cottage on the Cape, it was a rainy Sunday, and the whole family participated.

It was good old fashioned fun, & I remember that day with such fondness.

@QVCkitty1 @I've just started doing crossword. Any recommendations for someone just starting? Thanks!

@Franklinbell, is there a small, hometown daily newspaper in your area?

They often have easy crossword puzzles to solve. That's how I started.

I remember the clue which opened my mind to crosswords. It was a four letter word for "hide"...and the answer turned out to be "pelt", ... & the race was on! Smiley LOL

I enjoy doing crosswords, word searches, and word jumble.

Also jigsaw puzzles.  I am trying to get into sudoku but am finding it difficult to enjoy.  Trying to keep my brain exercised!

I started working crosswords as a teenager and my Mom was also always working puzzles.

As I grew older, working, spending free time reading,  I spent less time with crosswords but anytime I was recovering from surgery or an illness the first thing I wanted to do was get puzzle magazines with medium to hard crossword puzzles and other puzzles such as logic, acrostic, jumble, etc.

In a job I had at a small hospital, we had a coffee group in the morning about eight of us regulars.  The man in charge of the supplies department was first in to work and the paper was delivered to his department.  He would copy the puzzle page for each of us and we did puzzles together during our morning coffee.  One of the doctors in our group always amazed me as he was born and grew up in another country with another language, but was a whiz at the puzzles in English.

@QVCkitty1   When I was working, I would do crossword puzzles during my lunch time. Now, I do them just before bedtime.

I just buy the paperback ones at the pharmacy and sometimes

I do the ones in Archeology Magazine.

I like having  a book and a pen. I don't think that I would enjoy doing them online.
