I'm curious if anyone has one of these supposedly more secure cards that does not have a yearly fee involved? I just had a message that we will be receiving new cards...again...this time because of the Home Depot breach. It's a pain to get all of the automatic payments changed to the new number:/.

Not sure if I've seen those - I've never paid an annual fee for any cc.
btw: Off topic but when we were talking about Zappos free overnight shipping - it's when you order before 1pm CST then it's next business day delivery, whether you are a special customer or not.

I just received one, because of the home depot hack. No mention was made of a yearly fee.

I don't pay a yearly fee either the only chip card I have found here in the US has a huge yearly fee.
I just called the CU and apparently plans are in the works to have the more secure cards ready for 2015.
thanks for the Zappo's info. I recently ordered a Brighton wallet and it arrived promptly the next day![]()

I see I left out a KEY piece of info in my OP. I'm asking about the European-style cards that have a security chip embedded into the card.

They have been issued in Europe for awhile but not aware of when they'll begin issuing them in the US.
You'll have to shop for a cc deal that suits you. I've pared way back and only have one card, an AMEX that has no fee. Their CS is top notch and I'm very happy with them.

I have a Visa from BoA that has a chip and no annual fee. It is a travel rewards card.

The store where I work just received a new CC machine that is enabled to accept either the old style cards or the new cards with the embedded chip. Each time you use the "chip" card you have the option of asking it to be swiped or inserted (new style of running a card). When it's inserted the chip scrambles your info and sends itself a new password to add more security ....complicated to explain, but our understanding is that all stores will be required to have the new machines next year and all cards will be changed over to the chip embedded kind.
