I understand that great care is actually taken in naming medicines because the creators want to sell them world wide and want to make sure that the name chosen doesn't infringe in anyone else's proprietary name, and they also want to make sure the name chosen doesn't have a meaning in any language.

So not easy.

Interesting! That kind of explains the uniqueness of the names.

Re: Crazy Names For Prescrption Drugs

I used to be friendly with a drug rep and I asked him the same, where do they come up with these names and more to the point, why. The only reply he would give is that it wasn't in his job description. He did say that sometims the names are somehow reflective of some of the elements in the drug. Who knows. As for listing all the side effects, sheesh, often they'd scare anyone off the medicine if there was a viable option.

I don't care what they call the drugs, I just wish all the TV ads would stop.

They show all the happy people who have taken them and then start w/the side effects that take longer than the good sides.

You and me both!!! I see and hear them so often, sometimes they get stuck in m head the way a song does! Hate that!😅😅

Re: Crazy Names For Prescrption Drugs

The people who are in charge of naming new drugs at pharmaceutical companies must take a bag of Scrabble letters, take a few out and toss them in the air. However they land is what they name their new drug.
