I enjoy reading CL. All the free loaders wanting free rooms, (room wanted section)

In the casual encounters, I can't believe many people show their junk (faces exposed). Rants and raves section can be lol.

My son rented a lovely apartment through Craigs list.  It was a beautiful house that had an apt. over the garage.  Just lovely.  He moved in on Saturday.  Went to breakfast on Sunday and when he came back the apartment was empty!!!  He called the police and they walked over to the neighbors..He said the place had been vacant for 4 or 5 months.  The man that rented him the apt was not who owned the house .  He was out 2 months security, a months rent, and everything he owned,,,,including his clothes.  Its a terrible world out there.

You really have to check those people out. So many scams. Do a background check on people you rent from.

On the flip side you read so many sob stories so people can get a free room. Or I can pay you when I get  a job. Or exchange house cleaning services for free room.

NO! NO! NO! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once you get these people in your home, you have to legally evict. Costs $ and time. Plus they tear up your place, steal etc.

I wonder if there were always so many scammers, people you couldn't trust, or if it just seems like that now?

Oh, it's not all bad. We got our current dog through CL a few years ago from a wonderful guy and his girlfriend (now wife) who were moving and couldn't take her with them. Turned out that wasn't a fake story; he took over his grandparents' bakery in San Francisco. He and my husband occasionally post on  FB.

Cody (see my avatar) is the best of all the dogs we've ever had. And yes, I do say that about all of them. :-)

I'm glad this worked out for you and no one is saying that everyting on CL is bad.

However, many people getting rid of their dogs on Craig's List is disturbing to say the least.  That is a real problem.  Many of the dogs are stolen or not so nice people get dogs from somewhere like a pound or rescue group and turn around and sell them for nefarious purposes on Craigs List.

Just a note of interest:  ISIS is now encouraging their fighters to advertise on Sales sites, Craiglist and eBay included. They are advertising items that need to be seen in person, cash paid, etc.  They then "capture" the innocent people coming out and murder them.  There is even instructions on how to do this, setting up cages, how to dispose of bodies, etc.  This aspect is new (even tho crazies have been involved on occasion) and although I'm sure rare, something to at least have in the back of your mind....

Awful, I know....

Unfortunately Craigs List is a hotbed of criminal activity.  Between the scams of duping people out of money to the people who are killed when they meet up with the person, it is just a horrible site.  If you do purschase something on CL there's a 99% chance it's stolen.  Of course there are legitimate sellers and buyers on CL, but you are really taking your chances when you deal with someone on there.

Best advice that I can give is, if one is going to buy or sell something from Craigslist, do the transaction at the local police department, and meet in broad daylight, and not after dark.

You've never been there, but you know this?

There are scams everywhere online, including Craiglist. People are either smart enough to recognize them or they're not.

I know someone whose son was looking for a car on Craigs List.  He met the sellers in a parking lot and went to drive the car with them.  They killed him.  I would never do any type of transaction on Craigs List.

I've been using Craigslist for 14 yrs - finding roomies. Some for me and many for friends. I've never got taken advantage of. I ask lots of questions, ie, their full names, city/state, age, type of work they do and for which company, and their telephone number. Then I go to sites like Intelius.com, Peoplefinder.com and then I just google their name. Ages and their addresses always show up on a few sites - especially when they have a common name. When I feel comfortable, I'll call them on the phone - to be sure it's their real telephone #. Scammers would give up at the beginning.

If ur buying/selling an item ------- only work with people who are local.
