@puttypiesmomWhen we go to the casino, we are helping the many people that work there.
That is like saying, that people that eat out all the time are wasting money.
Whatever floats your boat!

No. Just no.

I absolutely could not go without shopping for a year. My curiosity would drive me crazy! I would have to look and see what is new and once I look, I would have to buy the items that speak to me.
I tried this year to curb my spending and did pretty well for a couple months. As time went on I saw too much I really wanted and I was off again on a shopping kick. I have so much I need nothing, but it is hard to pass up items I really like and boring to wear the same thing very often. I am a real good clutter remover tho and purge my closets and other belonging often.
I am going to make two New Year resolutions and try my darnest to stick to them. I need to lose 15 pounds. I know I am not disciplined enough to lose 15 lb in a year, but I am going to make a supreme effort to cut out a lot of the calories I ingest out of habit.
I am also resolving to think twice and then the 3rd time before I buy clothes, jewelry or shoes (my 3 weaknesses) If I wait awhile before purchasing, it may get sold to someone else or I may forget about it.
Crossing my fingers I can follow my new plan for 2018 and make it a thinner and less expensive year!

I am sure MANY of us have HAD to.....due to illness, disability, loss of a job, and a myriad of other unexpected reasons.

Just married and DH going back to school for his masters I know all about being frugal, lived that life for a long time, now we are retired so we treat ourselves and enjoy. Frugal has never left me but we check out prices & also do not deny ourselves. It finally paid off after all these years. Hope never to go back to those days.

I admire that!
Slowly, slowly things are going out. It has been hard to do.
I have taken a lot to the Salvation Army, but honestly not
much looks different.
We've been in this house so long, and it's just full. I have
tried to give our sons a lot, but they are smarter and don't
want too much.
After a while, I think it just takes blinders. Don't get too attached
to very much, and throw out or donate as much as possible.
Lately, the amount of stuff has actually depressed me.

I enjoyed the article.
I once gave up shopping for a year. Didn't buy any clothing, shoes, jewelry, makeup, bags, etc. Or anything frivolous like candles, hand lotion, magazines, etc. I wanted to pay off the mortgage. It wasn't hard to keep my promise, but there wasn't Internet shopping back then with all of its temptations.
I used to enjoy shopping more. When I needed a break, or when I was feeling blue, I'd head to the mall and just wander and window-shop. But shopping has changed so much. Malls aren't like they used to be years ago. Shopping isn't fun anymore. At least I don't find it to be so.

Why would I want to? I see no reason to! I never did like to waste time going to stores where I would overspend making spur of the moment purchases but online shopping is the best. I can afford to buy what I want and like so why not!!

I certainly would not really need anything for a year. Also it might cause me to go shopping in my own closet and get more imaginative with what I have. I would have to loose some weight to fit into some of the things I have so that would be a good thing.

I could go a year without using my cell phone but not shopping? NOPE
