@haddon9  I go to the McCaffrey's in Doylestown.  Our Genardi's became a Weiss.  Wegman's always has great bakery offerings.  Don't tempt me!

@Biftu I also shop a lot at Nonesuch market.  It's in Buckingham right next to Doylestown.  I love their corn in the summer!

I am thankful for a store like Costco - even when at times it has long lines.   I see people who want value for their dollar and I am thankful that I live in a country with an economy that allows people to shop and have choice.

The closest warehouse store to us is Costco, but it's still 40+ minutes away.  I also wish we had a Sam's or BJ's nearby. I like to shop around!

We have belonged to Sam's for many many years. There are 3 Sam's Clubs within a 20 mile radius of our house. And then a Costco was built over 10 years ago and 5 miles from our house. So we tried Costco too.

We have always liked Sam's Club. We even had the Manager of Sam's Club come up to us while we were checking out and asked about our experience. We mentioned that we were unable to buy 2 items. Ever since then, we have had no trouble finding those 2 items. Plus they had a wonderful selection of salad items, fresh and jarred. Their produce is always cheaper and better than Costco.

In fact last trip to Costco, I did not notice until I got home, I bought hummus that was over a week past the "best by date".

We continue to belong to both. They each have their assets.

@cindyNC We love the Sam's Club in South Carolina, we make a point of shopping there when we go on vacation. We always find many things we didn't know we "needed".

Re: Costco Ratings

[ Edited ]

I have memberships to both but I prefer Sam's 80% of the time.

Their prices for identical items are cheaper.

Sam's produce is better.  Costco's tends to rot faster (not just my opinion, look it up). I greatly prefer Sam's filet mignon compared to Costco

Their Scan and Go makes it where I can get in and out of the store with a few items in a matter of minutes.

I shop for two households (elderly parents) so I have Sam's Plus for $110 a year, but we earn enough cash  back with Sam's Plus so that pays for our membership. With Plus you get free shipping on thousands of items from their website from food, toiletries to even gift baskets and wedding flowers! With the Plus membership you get early shopping hours at 8am.

I do keep my Costco membership when I want more variety for things like gourmet cheese or holiday gifts and wine. But I don't need a lot of their trendier items like seaweed snacks or sushi.

I kind of don't want more people to learn how great Sam's scan and go is because it's so peaceful to shop there compared to Costco.

@busymom22 FYI - the Sam's Clubs near me, all have people making sushi, spring rolls, etc. My husband always picks up some for our dinner. There is a nice selection of Japanese food items.

Next to the sushi, Sam's also has someone making fresh orange juice or grapefruit juice. It is sooo good.

There is also a huge refrigerator case of numerous different cheeses and various items. Don't know about seaweed snacks (I never looked for them).

Maybe coming to a Sam's near you.

Re: Costco Ratings

I live in California. I have been to several Costcos. They are always swamped. But check out is fast. The Costco in my town, is nice, not quite as large as San Jose, which is a big City of 1 million.  I often use Insta cart to shop Costco, it costs a bit more on insta cart, but it's fast, easy and they are usually shopped, and to my door within 45 mins.  Saves me time and money.  The college kids love to work there the hours are early, but they start at over 23 bux for stock boys. ...or girls!!!

To me, Costco and Sam's are totally different,  I get different items at them, and only do pickup or delivery now days.

Sometimes I'd like to revisit Sams's but I can't imagine ever quitting Costco.  I've never had a problem with their customer service. We go once, sometimes twice, a month.  We usually try to shop midweek.  It's a madhouse on the weekends and immediately prior to certain holidays so we avoid those days.
