Hi
I do babysitting on the side and a mom wants me to pick up her kids each day from school and take them home.
It's about a mile away.
Has anyone paid for a service like this? What did you pay? I am not sure what to charge. Thanks

I've never done it . . . I did it for free . . . and then she stayed at my house until her older brother in middle school arrived home on the bus . . . but I was picking up my own kids so not like I was doing something I wouldn't have already been spending my time on.
But depending on your school and your car rider line . . . you could easily be looking at 45 minutes . . . 30 minutes in line give or take . . . plus creeping to where they actually load the kids in . . . and a little travel time to & from.
I'd just add it to your hourly rate and then maybe and extra for gas . . . as you will burn gas in the car rider line, not just the mile there and back.

My hourly babysitting rate starts at $10/hour.
So maybe $5.00 each day. I don't think it should take more than 30 minutes.

You can time it a couple of times and see what a good average is. Some parents here get in line way too early and just sit there. Me, I'd get in my car about the time the bell rang . . . and by time I got there the line was pretty much gone. Even then it was still a good 20 minutes, there, get kids, and back.

How old are the kids? Do you have car seats in your car for them?
I would just be concerned about liability, but that's just me.
Say there is an accident, (Heaven forbid!) and the kid(s) are hurt (again, Heaven forbid!) theoretically, the mom could come after you for any and all hospital bills, pain & suffering, etc.
But as I said, that's just something that I'm paranoid about.

They are teenagers and I have extra insurance coverage.
I am paranoid too.....we upped our coverage when we started having our son's friends in the car.

Well, I can't advise you on what to do, or not do do. You'll make the decision that is best for you and the family that you are sitting for, I'm sure.
Back in my day, when I was in high school, I lived about a mile from my school, and I walked it.
Good exercise, it was.![]()

My kids walked when they attended this school too.....
