@Puppy Lips - Then you're in luck - because you are not paying for them!

I very much enjoyed watching the coronation, from various perspectives.
The history, the spectacle, the entertainment value. Sure, I think some of the pageantry was a bit over-the-top, but I appreciated learning about some of the longstanding traditions and seeing the various dignitaries and royals from around the globe.
As for the cost, as a non-British taxpayer, I think it's none of my concern. I suspect very few British citizens are overwrought as to how my tax dollars are spent here.

I have been hearing about the financial drain the monarchy has on the British taxpayers since Charles' and Diana's wedding over forty years ago. If the UK citizens truly felt that the monarchy was a drain on the economy it would have ended years ago. Apparently there are many royal loyalists that want the monarchy to continue.

Few if any of us would wish to trade places with the working Royals, and they do work.
The Monarchy costs each taxpayer less than a pound a year. Even a pound a month would be more than fair.

Well, I have it on good authority ... from an unnamed source ... that knows a palace insider ... that Camilla and Charles were told Brits were having trouble just keeping food on the table.
Camilla's response: Let them eat cake.
NO SHE DIDN'T
Neither I've heard did Marie Antoinette ![]()

The "born into royalty" appears to be the lightening rod theme here for some. ![]()

I agree. Lots of resentment of hereditary wealth.
I have no problem with it whatsoever. Good for them!
Just the luck of the draw.

We have an inauguration every 4 years. The Brits have had 2 coronations in a hundred years. I would say we have outspent them on pomp and pageantry.
Just off the top of my head, there's the monarch's birthday celebrations which happen every year.
The Brits are the world leaders for pomp and pageantry. At least that's what all the royal experts said during the coronation.
