I was watching the local news today when the reporter mentioned "Corn Sweat" which I've never heard of !  Apparently during the months of July and August, corn fields sweat and 1 acre of corn can release 3-5 gals of water into the air causing the heat index to rise !  I don't live close to any corn fields but it's about 93 degress here in St. Louis with a heat index  over 100 right now.

So if you live close to a corn field take care and stay safe !!

@Goodie2shoes @4kitties   Good Lord, it is true ...I learn something new everyday. That actually was interesting, useful info.   We do have  cornfields close by.   Ran and got my umbrella, lol, lol!

@shoekitty @Goodie2shoes @4kitties

Thank you for this interesting thread! Love learning something new. I've never lived that close to major cornfields and appreciate the umbrella humor. Needless to say, I'm all 'ears' to hear more. LOL

This does make think of how all this water could be harvested for reuse. But, I'm no scientist, only curious cat. So, a bit of research is in order. Cheers!

@Cats3000,

Your response made me laugh. There's always weird things we can learn here every day!Woman Surprised

I'm from NE Illinois...Chicago to be exact.    Never heard of such a thing.  The humidity comes straight off Lake Michigan!

We live in a rural community.  Our house is in a subdivision but there are farms and big corn fields all around.  I've never heard of this.

I live near an area that raises a lot of rice too, so not only do we have corn sweat we have rice sweat.  And since the rice fields need to be flooded with water, we have the humidity from all that water too.  It makes the heat index really spike up. 🥵
