You're right, it does make a lot of sense. Then we can read the intelligent posts without having to be bothered with the nonsensical, ill-informed people who believe all the lies and spew that garbage. Sadly, those folks will be voting which is really scary.

There's the rub.  We all have our own ideas about who's who, don't we?

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

I feel the Q is more than generous in the topics they allow.  I belong to several blogs.  One is a nail polish forum.  No one ever thinks about posting topics other than topics other than polish, manicure tips, etc.  I am always amazed that people think that the Q should invite posts on ANYTHING other than products that they sell. They are more than generous by allowing topics on your pets, what happens down your street, gripes about your husband, your pains and aches, how your football team is doing, the latest on your soap show, help with your recipes, you name it..  They finally say they are no longer going to tolerate nasty posts about their employees, politics, and religion, and we complain???  Geesh!

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

The threads would last if people were civil when stating their viewpoints.  It's unlikely anyone is going to change another person's mind, but I enjoy reading the verbal exchanges.

Looks like the FOX bashers managed to get the thread about Elisabeth H. poofed. Such a shame, why can't they just mind their own business? They can discuss their friends on CNN and MSNBC, since they claim to not watch FNC.

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

Why the threads get deleted so often:

-New poster with a very low post count - "OMG! YOU TOTALLY ONLY JOINED TO CAUSE TROUBLE!"

-Poster says they like the host, but isn't fond of the outfit they're wearing - "OMG! YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS THAT THEY'RE PRETTIER AND MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN YOU!"

-Poster misspells a word - "OMG! WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU GRADUATE FROM?! OR DID YOU EVEN GRADUATE?! LOLOLOLOLOLOL"

-Poster asks a question about pretty much anything - OMG! YOU'RE QUESTION IS WEIRD AND YOU ONLY ASKED THAT TO CAUSE TROUBLE!"

-Poster gives compliment to anyone at QVC - "OMG! YOU'RE JUST A PAID SHILL WHO WORKS FOR QVC!"

-Poster post about doing a good deed - "OMG! YOU THINK YOU'RE SOOOOOO HIGH AND MIGHTY NOW!"

-Poster posts a nice thread - "OMG! KNOCK IT OFF WITH THE SUNSHINE AND BUTTERFLIES!"

-Poster posts a not-so-nice thread - "OMG! QUIT BEING SO NEGATIVE!"

This is probably an exaggeration (maybe), but I think most here get the gist of it.

All that aside, I think some people just learn to grow a thicker skin by default. When people were mean to me on this forum, I was all like, "Why are you being so mean?! I didn't even do anything to you!" Smiley Tongue

Now, I've gotten better at just ignoring it. Some still take a few verbal swipes at me sometimes, but I just don't even bother to respond. Because what's the point? It's not like they'll believe me anyway. So it's best to just not respond.

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

My wish is for a political one. I know we can't. But things could be pointed out, if name calling etc., didn't happen, but it has. Adult-like conversations are nice that remain civil. I've seen too many quickly go down the tubes!!!

Here's a novel idea --

When a poster with something "nasty" to say comes in, do you all think you could simply ignore it?  I know I can.  Imagine if every person was able to ignore it.  The thread would move on.  But alas, egos do get in the way and people cannot control themselves to be silent. Try doing it next time someone presses your buttons.  :-)

Yup! If I see the "name" I go right on by it.

I had to LOL at your post.  Great examples!
