Re: Consumer Reports Ranks Wegmans #1...

Just a plain ole' simple girl, living and shopping in the Ozarks.

Have never seen a Wegman's, Publix or Trader Joes.

Shop weekly at our in town locally owned grocery, our clean, well-stocked Super WalMart (which is, of course a department store as well as a grocery store), and our clean, well-stocked Aldi's.

Of course, I may very well be feeding my loved ones poor quality meat and produce, but they are simple country folk as well so they are probably too uninformed about the big fancy grocery stores to know the difference {#emotions_dlg.sneaky}

Do you have a Costco nearby, minky? I honestly don't think I could live happily without one nearby...sad, huh? They have excellent meat products. There's no Wegman's or Publix in my state.

I live in a grocery wasteland. We have Walmart, Albertsons and Smith's (a Kroger company). We do have Costco but I'd never pay to shop in a store and don't need large quantities of anything. I'm underwhelmed by Costco.

I serve my husband and anyone who eats here poor quality meat and produce too.

I'll go out on a limb and say probably a good part of America shops in local or chain regular old grocery stores. I bet some posters here do too.

Running between these top rated stores would leave little time to post here.

We've been going to Costco less and less. There's nothing that we really need there, and if I pay a couple dollars more for a can of coffee or bottle of ketchup at the grocery store, I'm still way ahead not walking out of there with $300 of stuff!

Wegmans is considered a local and also a chain grocery store. They just happen to be outstanding in the way they treat their employees and customers and have excellent quality food.

I can only speak about Publix, but it's just a regular chain grocery store. We have 3 of them within 4 miles of our house. I do all of our grocery shopping there.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

tansy,

We probably do have Costco stores but have never shopped in one. We have a Sam's Club business membership but I never go there either.

I don't know how they can be considered local with only 85 outlets through out the country. Again, it's a great place, but it isn't everywhere or price friendly imo. My mother shops there but when she needs to stock up, she goes to the local Giant.
