Never heard of Wegmans. It must be regional.

I think it's just east coast. Anyone know for sure?

Up for a road trip, Noel? I'm thinking we west coasters should go check out the nearest Wegmans. I call shotgun -- lol.

I'm in!! From what I can tell from the list there is one very close to our son's. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

I read that. They always place at the top!

We have NONE of those top 3 anywhere near here. People have been trying to get a Wegmans for years. (I heard it goes by county income?).

I get SO jealous when my brother talks about Wegmans and how wonderful it is. We shop at Giant which I love, but I wish we had a Wegmans!

Would be interesting to verify if it "goes by county income"? Seems like there was another store that was criticized for locating in wealthy areas only.......trying to remember which one...........

The Wegmans in PA are not only located in wealthier areas. Most seem to be in heavily populated areas.

I go to one when I need things I know they carry that my regular grocery store does not. The store is huge. They give out a lot samples so shoppers just leave their carts blocking the aisles. I do not think most of their prices are as competitive as other areas stores. At one point it was the cheapest place to buy milk, but this is no longer true. Some of their prices are deceiving. Recently pineapples were $2.99 but if you wanted it cored, it was $5.99. At other area stores there is no charge for coring.

I do see QVC hosts shopping at Wegmans.

I did not know that.

So, the wealthy California counties have Wegmans? I thought it was a NE chain?

I didn't think they were in Cali but maybe they are? Mainly the NE I thought, though they are building some in VA. If it went by taxes, I am fairly sure where I live now must be a much option than where I used to live.lol! I heard a rumor about 2 yrs ago from another Buffalonian that they were building a Wegmans down here. I was so freaking excited and then I didn't hear anything else so I called up Wegmans to inquire about it and asked where it would be, they told me it wasn't true and they had no plans as of yet. I was so upset. My husband was like you wow, you called them? lol!

There probably isn't a single Wegman's in an low income neighborhood, yet another head scratcher for the dubious high rating.

Re: Consumer Reports Ranks Wegmans #1...

I think I have shopped at Wegmans, if it is in South Carolina--very nice place to shop, if so.

Publix is my local store, not so good on some things, esp. fruit and veg, but excellent in other ways. Very pleasant employees.

For a special meal, I will get the produce at Fresh Market or Whole Foods, where the produce tends to be better.

The downside to Fresh Market is that it is a group of different concessions and the quality and pricing are inconsistent. I like the Whole Foods store brands very much as well as the fish and produce.

I've never heard of a Wegman's in CA...I have shopped at them when I've been on the East Coast, and they are nice stores.

But I preferred the markets that are owned by the Greek family..can't remember the name?

We don't have them on the West Coast, either.

Thank you, Sydney...Market Basket. My extended family all love that market, and I went there with them, and was impressed.

Wegman's receives 3000 requests a year from people who want Wegman's to locate a store where they live.
