As to the Louis Dell'Olio folks, I generally liked his line and ordered many items (and still have them), but OMG any criticism was like criticizing Harry and Meghan today.  Immediately branded as some sort of hater - even accused of lying.

I remember mentioning that I was annoyed that for a time his buttons kept coming off (weren't properly sewn) and I was lectured about how easy it is to sew on a button and that I should just do that and  how dare I blame him for manufacturing flaws etc. etc.

I also remember heads exploding when he, himself, said online - repeatedly - that a lined jacket of his was machine washable.  Now I normally wouldn't do that, but I had had success washing  a lined suede jacket (of another line) so I tried it.  What a mess - it shrank and the lining pulled away - unwearable.  I wanted to warn people not to do it.

Again OMG -I was castigated as stupid - nobody washes a lined jacket.  He NEVER said you could - he WOULD NEVER say that (it was still on tape).  I was a liar, a hater, and I was told to shut up.

Interesting people, those LDO fans.

@Isobel Archer @Dedicated followers of anything often become zealots; fanatical and uncompromising, and lose all objectivity. They can become militant at the first signs of any criticism, no matter how small the criticism is.

Good point, @Mindy D

Also, the same can be said of some dedicated opponents.  I recently read an opinion piece about the way some people have become so enmeshed in a topic, or a public personal, that they lose perspective.  Seems like we human beings waste a lot of our precious time fighting to support or denigrate celebrities or other well-known people who don't even know us or care if we defend or detract.

Re: Compensated influencers here?

RE the LDO possible influencer......could it have been BARBARA IN VIRGINIA?

it did get difficult to mention issues or problems in the forum with what LDO was selling. i am the same way.....i dont want to sew on buttons, fix loose threads, spend an hour trying to get wrinkles out of clothing, or do any repairs myself. there were times that i contacted QVC customer service and asked them if they would pay for these issues, and they often did give me credits. i stopped buying maybe a year or so before the clothing line was officially shut down because i wasnt happy with the quality and the items being offered.

Absolutely NOT you, John. It’s someone that we haven’t seen post in quite some time. Maybe several years?

The plant-based poster, @bikerbabe?  Sorry, just curious.

@tansy @I think it was a poster that wasn't just plant based but was a proponent of the McDougall Plan or Program. No added vegetable oils are part of this vegan program.  Just my opinion but I found this plan and the followers to be kind of cultish and prone to being preachy.

@tansy ,  @bikerbabe  I don't know if this is who you are referring to but I definitely remember a poster who, how shall we say, was extraordinarily committed to her diet beliefs/religion. She was like a dog with a bone. 😲 The name was sidsmom. Has not posted here on the forums since 4/2/2020.

yes yes and yes.  I even recall qVC seeking applications, etc. for influencers.    Plus the hosts' branding with their "influence" -- like Shawn, Jane and Amy for sure -- how about Kathy Levine too.  Sharing their personal stories, family, photos, travel.....you must have noticed it.

I know You Tube is mostly frowned upon on this site, why, I don't know.  I watch many beauty and skincare vloggers that showcase products.  They let you know if a video is being sponsored but even if they didn't, I would hope everyone would have the intelligence to make up their own mind about a product, do some research, read UNincentivised reviews, think about your own needs, etc.  QVC's selling tactics are much much worse and harder pitched than anything I've ever seen on YT.  TV and magazine ads are incentivized.  This just isn't the huge deal some are making it out to be.  Use your brain, think for yourself.

You're missing the point. When people aren't upfront about their intention it feels sleezy and underhanded.

I remember her.  She (I'm assuming it was a she) was very militant about food.  Only plant based food was acceptable and no oil or fat of any kind!  No avacados or olive oil.  She would get angry with other posters who had other ideas.

Re: Compensated influencers here?

I think what needs to be mentioned in this conversation is that many people no longer watch traditional television, especially under a certain age.

Influencers/content creators, whatever you want to call them, are today’s version of TV commercials.
