Re: Coming Out of Costco There Was A Big Issue With Someone Parked in the Handicapped Spot

MayI do a mini rant? My closest market is extremely difficult to park at but it's because so many spots are reserved for groceries to be delivered to the car:/ Way more spots than handicap ones.

I am going to gather up my courage and park in one of those rarely occupied spots.

@ciao_bella.  Costco would not have the authority to issue a parking violation.  That's a law enforcement function.  The handicapped driver should have called the police to report an infraction.  It would be low priority so the police may not have arrived before the parked car left.

It's never a good idea to csonfront a law breaker.  Citizens get assaulted or worse doing that all the time.

Whether the local PD will accept the photo as proof is doubtful but possible.

Shoekitty said, here in Northern California you can show photo to police with licence plate showing in spot.  The police  send a letter to the law breaker  to respond. In larger cities it may take a while but you get a ticket in mail, in smaller cities like mine it would be sooner. During Christmas maybe not so quick, but police have been called to shopping centers here for violations, and they tow or cite, whichever is appropriate  The accused has opportunity to produce placard or pay fine.  Yes, security can report to police the violation when they see it. The police have to come to issue ticket. They do here anyway. But only police can issue ticket. Drivers in California can be cited for texting, drinking and such with a photo, and licence number. It has been done. People have been cited with dogs loose in back of truck as well... with photo. Of course everyone has time to respond, explain or except their fate, lol.

If he can work at the post office, standing all day, moving boxes etc, there is no way he should have handicapped parking.

@Puppy Lips  I have to ask how you know about this employee. Do you work with him?

Not all disability is outwardly physical either. He may be slinging packages and standing but that does not mean he has to display an outward disability..

Some illnesses are considered presumptive, such as Agent Orange.

If he already qualifies at 70% then something is going on with him.

Trust me the VA does not pass out disability on a whim.

@Cakers3 I go to the post office 5 days a week.  I talk to him often.  He is very candid about his issues.  Yes, something is going on with him and it is not my place to disclose that here.  But he is perfectly capable of parking far away and walking.  I am "assuming" that getting a 100% disability status automatically comes with handicap parking.  If that is the case, I don't think it should, as they don't all need that.

@Love my grandkids I do know the details.  Not every 100% disabled veteran needs handicapped parking.

@Puppy Lips  Disability is not just physical. The point is the VA will determine what, if any, increase in benefits he deserves. Whether he receives a placard and/ or plates is between him and the VA.

As I said earlier the VA does not hand out benefits on a whim. It takes time and not all end up with extended benefits.

More power to him. Our vets deserve everything they receive and as the mother of a 100% they deserve even more.

Be well.

@tansy  Park in a HP spot or a spot for car deliveries?

I know the car delivery spots seem to be increasing but don't forget we had COVID before plus it gives disabled people a chance to stay in their cars without struggling.

Of course the car deliveries are convenient for everyone too.

HP spots are a big help but not always convenient.

So which type of space are you thinking about 🤔

@Cakers3. This guy told me that he would get a handicapped parking status. I don’t know if that is automatic with 100% disability or not. All I am saying is that I don’t think every 100% disabled vet needs that. This guy does not.

I would never park in a handicap spot (!) but when there are 10 empty car delivery spots it is tempting.

My husband and I went to Michael's this afternoon and there were six spots in front of the store all reserved for pickup.  🤷‍♀️

@Puppy Lips Not your decision nor place to evaluate what he does or does not need.

It does not negatively affect your life.

Let it go.

@tansy  Ok. Knowing you through the years I thought that is what you meant. I could not see you taking a HP spot.

We do see more delivery spots popping up lately too.
