The result of a ground collision between an Air Canada plane and a Port Authority emergency vehicle.  The plane had just landed.

The pilot and copilot were killed on impact and there are dozens of other injuries among plane passengers and Port Authority personnel.   The NTSB is already on site to conduct its investigation. 

LaGuardia will be completely shutdown until 2 pm, which will undoubtedly impact air transportation around the country, if you know people flying today!

Local news is now reporting that the plane was granted permission to land at the same time the vehicle was granted runway access.  Weather could have been a contributing factor:  there were fog conditions. 

And this news:  a flight attendant in the jump seat was found strapped in her chair on the runway!  Injured,  but alive!  Remarkable!

This is a picture of a Port Authority Fire Rescue Truck that was involved in the collision.   As you can see, it is quite formidable.  Imagine the plane moving at 30 mph+ hitting it:

How awful. Looking at the plane there is no way the pilot and co pilot could have ever survived. An accident that should have never happened.
