@Mz iMac @They are cheap. You can attach them right over the dorm curtains. There are ways to attach them so it's not permanent. Sometimes you need to sleep when it's already light out. Of course, anything you do is with approval from the school. You can also just drape them over the top of the existing curtains if you want to sleep and then just take them off the next day.

Penut butter, and I think the sewing kit would be useful for minor repairs. And cash is always good! I used to love getting care packages from home, both for the goodies and the love andd thoughts from my parents!

What about personal care items such as deoderant, bath soap, razor blades, etc.?
Papeer towels, paper plates & cups?

I'd go with some goodies that I know he or she really likes. I'd also include microwave popcorn, instant oatmeal, crackers, peanut butter, raisins, Ramen noodles, those packages of tuna salad, instant soup, granola bars. Toothpaste, deodorant, shower gel work too.

Here are things we've sent our grandson. (His school has long, cold winters.)
Beef jerky (most popular item)
Mac and Cheese cups
Soup cups
Microwave popcorn
Swiss Miss hot chocolate packets.
Cookies
Snack size potato chips bags
Beanie
Extra warm socks
K95 masks
Gift Certificates
We've found the easiest way to send money to grandkids is via their Paypal accounts.
For Gift Certificates, you can Google a map of their university to see which places are on campus or within short walking distance.

If he's not on a meal plan, I'd buy a gift card to the school dining hall and load it up.
If he can't have a car on campus, I'd also suggest Uber or Lyft cards as well as Doordash, UberEats for food delivery.

You have some great suggestions here. From what I remember when I was in college (MANY years ago), the people that received care packages from home appreciated everything they received but really enjoyed the homemade cookies, etc. the most.

I would try to get a sense for what the guy actually likes/uses. My son wouldn't use/eat a lot of the items mentioned.
