Daughter #3 and my two granddaughters came for a visit yesterday. One of my granddaughters has expressed a desire to become a CRNA. She is 14. I thought it was because of the Joan Rivers controversy, but they have not been keeping up with the news and had no idea about how Joan died. I was pretty surprised because, frankly, it's only due to what I have learned on this BB in the last week that I knew such a profession existed.

My daughter told me that because she is an IT and has worked in ORs for many years installing computer programs and teaching, she knows quite a few OR types. One of them said she could make arrangements for my granddaughter to witness what a CRNA does in administering anesthesia to a patient during surgery. She would be completely outfitted and masked and kept a certain distance away from the operating area, but she could get a good idea what goes on during surgery and anesthesia. She is thrilled. She realizes going into nursing and specializing in anesthesia is a very important and serious venture, but she welcomes it. I think it will be a good experience for her to witness this live and will either turn her completely off or completely on. It will be interesting.

She has three more years of high school, then four years of college, then two years for this certification, so anything could happen, but I'm glad my granddaughters have goals. My younger one (11) wants to sing on Broadway (she's a great singer) . . . but that is a far less realistic goal, LOL.

I seem to be following you around today Ford!

Excellent idea for her to witness surgery. When in high school my dd decided on nursing. I talked her into doing an internship while in high school. She got to witness several surgeries and observe on several different floors. I figured it would help her to make her decision. It did. She has now been accepted into nursing school and is just beginning her clinicals.

Good luck to your grand!!

Wow . . . that is excellent!! Both my granddaughters are in advanced classes and do extremely well in school, in fact, they have a need to excel in whatever they do. It's wonderful to see.

Good luck to your daughter as well!!

It doesn't hurt that the health industry is one of the least affected by job loss and most health workers are in great demand.
