Coupon Queen, your response #40 says a lot to me. You say your "friend" isn't really your "friend" but more a co-worker. If that is the case, then I'm thinking that a big part in play here is that you BOTH have issues with the clerk and feel justified in your feelings, but are attributing all the problems to the clerk herself and excusing and in fact supporting the actions of the other party.
Your friend/co-worker knows how the clerk wants the info and has chosen to input it her way because she thinks her way is the right way. How is it significant to do it your friends way if the reports run aren't really run from the database (odd to say the least). If it's only a reference source and then handwritten out of the accumulated data and even available elsewhere, why is your friend so insistent that the proper names and capitalization is "right"? I suspect that your friend won't be happy until the clerk is sacked, but that could backfire on her.

Seems like a lot of time is being wasted on keying in or correcting info that is already in the database.
If the clerk is really in control of the database and your friend is only covering for her when she is out, why don't she just types it in all lower case or upper and lower to be consistent with all the other entries?

Why is it an issue with your co-worker who is not really your friend when the Clerk is out?.....if there is a problem with her work attendance then that is an issue between the Clerk and her boss....also...in most places of employment when an employee is out then others have to help out...it part of being on a team...FYI: there is no ""I"" in team.

Coupon Queen, I'm wondering why you are so involved in this mess when it really doesn't concern you.

I would talk to the clerk who enters the data. Going to the supervisor was probably a mistake.

If I were you and your friend, I would 'leave it alone' since the matter has been brought to your Supervisor's attention. It's up to her to decide the proper procedure(s). If it's all 'wrong', it's in her hands and responsibility. Whatever happens isn't your problem, only your Supervisor's. That's what a Supervisor is there for.......... to make sure everything is properly done.

Interesting that the clerk is out so much and yet still has time when she returns to go in and change entries... Maybe the way to approach it is to question whether or not she has enough to do...
