Our camper has had a bit of a musty smell since we got it out of storage and despite intense cleaning. So I decided it must be the rugs. We went to walmart and bought a Haan steam cleaner and cleaned them - mostly using it as a handheld since space is small in a camper. It was mostly done crawling around on hands and knees. It killed whatever was causing the odor and got the carpet nice and clean looking too. There were a couple spots on the carpet - mostly spilled coffee - that we pretreated with one of those cans of carpet cleaning foam, but basically the Haan did a great job of cleaning and apparently killing whatever caused the odor. We did not use the carpet accessory though, we used the pads that are meant for floors or we used the hand held accessory with the bonnet on it, so it would actually scrub the carpet not just run over it.Now I plan to pick a sunny day to take all the seat cushions out in the sun and steam them too - just on general principle since they are 10 years old. I was just saying to hubby that this old campert looks like it is still pretty new and he said but keeping it looking this way is getting harder and harder.
