When arriving at the rental in the Outer Banks, we sweep and vacuum, wash counters and tables, sinks etc... wash the sheets and towels since I can't use fragrance or dryer sheets etc... upon leaving we run the dishwasher and put everything away and leave extra cleaning supplies for other guests.

I take a gallon of vinegar to run through coffee maker. Every "cute" hanging mug us washed. How can hanging mugs be sanitary?

When we had a vacation rental in FL, we hired a cleaning person. When a renter left we'd call the cleaning lady and she'd clean before the next one came. Long term renters were responsible for cleaning during their stay. But the place was always cleaned by the professional once they left.
Our cleaning person must've been thorough cuz we had repeat renters year after year and to my knowledge never had one complaint.
