So they'd be slaughtered like sheep with some useless rocks in their hands. What a moronic idea from the principal.

@Trinity11wrote:Was he being facetitious? Was he making a point how all he is left with is really nothing but telling kids to use rocks to defend themselves?
I asked a few people I know about this. All thought he never was serious about the rocks he was using it as a metaphor for the useless suggestions for the elephant in the room. Gun control is necessary. Without it we are reduced to telling our kids to use rocks to defend themselves...
@Trinity11 Well then if that is the case that is even worse. He isn't just talking tongue in cheek in some vague setting; he presented this idea to the school board.
Since he apparently has no viable solution (other than the janitor is armed already) he isn't any better than the supposed non-caring individuals who do not like the idea of buckets of rocks in closets.
His position is to provide viable solutions and open up dialogue; I see nothing of value in how he views his very important position if being "facetious" is all he has to offer.

He sounds like a MORON. What a REALLY dumb idea.

Have we really been reduced to this by a so-called educator telling kids to throw rocks at a shooter? I just viewed the video and this guy can't be for real.
No wonder parents home-school.

they might not even have the rocks in their hands. I thought the rocks were to be in buckets in the front of the classroom?

@lovescats The buckets are in a closet. I can see a rush of students running to that closet to grab a rock. Uh-huh.

VERY bad idea. When I was in grade school, the other kids used to throw stones at me. It was right after WW2, and I had a "foreign-sounding" last name...............

I worked at a school and we had a safety meeting discussing what to do it a shooter came into the classroom. We were told if all we could do is hire behind a desk we would all die. But if we immediately all started throwing books, chairs, pencil s ,jackets anything we could the shooter would try to protect himself and then you physically attack him.Yes some might be killed and hurt but more will survive than it you just hid. He did a demonstration. We threw tennis balls at him as he rushed into the room. And while he was fending off the balls several of us attacked him and sat on him on the floor. We were so rough that we ripped the knee out of his pants. So rocks aren't such a bad idea, much more painful than our tennis balls.

But, you threw things that were within your reach. You didn’t have to run to a closet and collect things from a small bucket. I can’t imagine 15 hands reaching in at the same time.
If push comes to shove, it would be prudent to throw anything you can, but if the intruder was in the hallway shooting in through the open door, it would be difficult to even get close to hitting him with stuff.
it’s terrible that we even have to discuss such awful stuff. What a crazy time we live in.
