Wow, the Cicadas are peaking here in the Northeast . You can see them flying all around and hitting people in the head and face . Just heard on the news the WH PRess Plane was grounded due to Cicadas . I did not know they could be potentailly dangerous.
Have anyone eslse noticed the impact of the Cicadas ?

I'm in southeastern PA and haven't seen - or heard - any. But I've heard they;re very bad in Washington, DC.

I live in Md and the cicadas are flying around where I live. My husband was doing yard work and they were hitting him in the head . He hasn't flown his model airplane since they began making a big presence. The noise they make is droning .

Yesterday's TV news showed a photo of a nice black sedan that a distracted driver had crashed into a light pole. Driver had the window open, got hit smack in the face by a flying cicada.
Driver was apparently OK. Car was declared "a total loss".
Cicada escaped the scene and apparently got away with the "hit and run".

Just googled - guess Illinois is one of the states that are supposed to get them, but haven’t seen or heard of any citing a yet. But, they just mentioned on my morning news that the female cicadas are easily confused and mistake some motor sounds for the males mating calls. So, it’s not uncommon to be cutting your lawn and end up being surrounded by female cicadas wanting to mate! 😝🤣
Another case of a woman making a bad choice due to a man.

My sister and her DH live in a very leafy Wash DC suburb in Northern Virginia. She says the noise in her yard is deafening.
Her husband at one point measured the noise decibal level. I think she said it was 63 at the time of measurement, which I saw on the internet is about the level of human conversation.
So maybe it's similar to one or two thousand people in your backyard, all talking at once.

I'm in Southern Maryland on the border of Charles and St. Mary's Counties....and haven't seen ONE cicada (thank goodness!)
I know they are harmless, but they are just so darned big and creep me out! Those red eyeballs!
Yikes!
