@Greenhouse wrote:I purchased the Amazing Echo for three on my list, one of which is my husband. I think it is great for those who need some control over their environment and are unable to do so. You can program it to put on music, shut off lights etc. it is not only a nifty gift but also quite thoughtful if someone on your list has a disability. It's fun for the whole family, college student or the techy in your life.
Yay for you! Anyone and I mean anyone would love the Echo. I have one at home and one at work. I not only use them for fun, but they are super functional. They aren't cheap though. Great if it is in your price range for those on your list.
This gift fits almost every age as long as they have wifi. It's THE perfect gift.
Yes I purchased the first by invite for a retiring friend; it would have been nice if they kept that price...but the kids are twins born in December and really great kids....I am just happy to find something they will love and different...

Thanks for the replies! I can see I am not alone.
(Yes 2 teen and 1 tween granddaughters). They, unlike me, love to shop so the gift cards I give they buy clothing and accessories (mostly). But I want something special to give them and my kids. They all have cellphones and laptops already as well as Uggs (except my vegan granddaughter, she wont wear uggs anymore since last year when she turned vegan).
And about that Echo! I want that! lol. My husband thinks its dumb! I said noooo it is not dumb its cool. (I am a gadget girl).
And Burnsite- lucky you going to London! Enjoy!

@Shorty2U - I know Echo is not a necessity but it's fun. I love all things technology and I hope my husband took my hint about an Apple Watch for Christmas! Enjoy your shopping and Happy Holidays!

You could enclose the gift cards in little boxes. QVC has the handmade boxes in the shape of all different characters or I've actually gotten small engraved jewelry boxes from Things Remembered as well as their water globes which my nieces seem to love and it's not crazy expensive either with a real personal touch from their aunt.

I'm not in the mood to shop for Christmas until then.
Yes, same here. It's funny to hear people say they are behind schedule when it is October.

You can google Echo and find all kinds of you tube videos, etc.
It is a speaker that sits on a table or counter. It plugs into electricity and has to be connected to wifi. It "wakes" up when you call her by name. You can name her either Amazon or Alexa. Mine is Alexa. She is not listening unless you say her name.
I will just list some of the things she does. She is always available without having to push buttons or to get a device out. She is just there in the room. Here is a partial list:
1. Plays (most not all) music just by telling her what you want to hear. Mine is connected to Amazon Prime, so I don't know how it works if you don't have Amazon Prime.
2. Set an alarm.
3. Set a timer.
4. Add something to your grocery list. After you make a list, you can print it off from online or see it on your Echo App on your phone.
5. Turn on and off lights and other things, but you have to have special switches to use this feature. I do not use this feature.
6. Do math problems.
7. You can ask her to spell a word for you.
8. Tell you when and where your favorite team is playing and what the score is. The next morning she can tell you who won and what the score was.
8. Ask her what the weather is for the day or you can get a 7 day forecast.
9. I can ask her how far it is to ????? from my location and she can tell me even if it is far far away.
10. You can ask her the date the Titanic sank or the date Marilyn Monroe died, etc.
11. Have her tell me a joke. They are super corny. LOL
12. You can have her play music with a sleep timer so that she goes off at a chosen time.
13. She makes a "to-do" list for you to print off or view on your phone.
14. You can have her order you things off Amazon, but I do not use this feature either.
I'm sure she does more, that is all I can think of right now.
I personally think she is a necessity!!!! Every age would love her and it would also make a good family gift.
