Had my daughter on Dec 23,1982 and got to spend 3 days in the hospital recovering, like was the norm for giving birth back then---the xmas day rush was on and there were a large number of moms and babies going home that day-- but I stayed put and literally had the whole maternity ward to myself---nurses came right away when I rang for them, had my meals on time and was pretty much pampered --the spouse and I had a wonderful champagne, steak and lobster dinner--ahhh so nice!!! Went home on Xmas day and the real world beganWoman Wink

I'm glad you ended up all right after your first more than difficult Christmas.

And I can only imagine how painful breaking your wrist was! I hope you heal quickly.

Growing up, my mother always placed the emphasis on Christmas being a religious holidays. My gifts were oranges, hair barrettes, books. Simple but given with love.

Fast forward many years later to the mid-eighties. Dinner at my mother's and us three children there, celebrating. My mother put out champagne glasses but put a $100 bill in each of our glasses. It was so kind and touching. It was her way of saying we celebrated the small things with gratitude and now, something a bit more grandiose.

We lost her ten years later and not a day goes by I don't think of and miss her. HeartThis is but one story of many, many happy Christmases...

Probably in the 1980s when cam corders first came out, my sis and bil's family got one. his was far back in the days when when all got along mind you a total of 11 or so. Chuck bil brought ot to mom & dad's - well it was on and down hill. We all never had so mych fin, laughing and getting along while he caught stuff on film.

Great fun back in the day, until it wasn't.

I remember waking up in my bed on Christmas morning when I was about 3 years old to the bright lights of the movie camera entering my room with my excited mom and dad who was working the camera ready to capture my squinty eyes (cuz the light was so bright) and my wonderment at what Santa had brought. Those reels are still at his house but I bet we have no way of watching them anymore.

I was always the mother who wrapped gifts from Santa on Xmas eve after the kids went to bed.  I was always running late.

One year, I vowed to get done early and I did.  A few days before Xmas I got strep throat and scarlet fever.  I was so, so sick I couldn't physically get out of bed.

My husband woke me up after midnight on Xmas eve and wanted to know if I bought gifts and if I did, where I put them.  I was too sick to care.  He worked the midnight shift and came home in the  middle of the night to check on me.

I told him where they were and went back to sleep.  He was shocked they were all wrapped. So, he did the Santa duties.

It was the first and last time I was ready ahead of time.

When my kids were little, every Christmas, one of the grandkids was sick on my MIL's sofa, mostly my nieces and nephews. Oh, what memories.

Last year I had a knee replacement on December 13.  I was feeling great on Christmas and got a break.  My son held dinner at his house.  It was the first relaxing Christmas I had in years.

@SaveTheTurtles  Those reels can be converted to digital. You can find many places online or there could be one near you.

Good luck because family movies are special.📽️

12-13-18 I had cervical spine fusion. I couldn't do anything I normally would in preparation for holiday company.  Our kids showed up on Christmas with groceries and made dinner while I sat. Our son-in-law (still "to be" then) took command of the kitchen and made a delicious pork loin while the others pitched in where needed.
