My 6 y.o. granddaughter was asked to be Mary in the re-enactment of the Nativity done by children at our 11 p.m. Christmas Eve service. They had to arrive at church a bit early so the little ones could practice their part. At the last minute my 4 y.o. grandson was asked to 'stand in' as a camel. He wore a furry cap like the face of a camel, with a furry 'apron', all of which he announced as "looking ridiculous." As the service progressed, it was time for the Nativity, and the children began marching up to the stable. GD went up and sat at the head of the manger, doing her part seriously and superbly. The rest followed, taking their proper places. The 'animals' were to stand over to the side facing the audience. But GS went over to the manger, with his back to the audience, standing very still.......which probably was the first time in his short life that he has stood still. Then, along with the shepherds, he knelt at the manger. So precious and humorous at the same time. Because of the hour, many of the children came to church in their pj's. It surely added to the scene as GS stood there with his back to the audience in his Mario pj's!

To add to it all, my daughter caught 2 y.o. little sis just as she was about to go up the steps to follow big brother and sister. Hmmmm.....wonder what part she wanted to play.
